This would be a fun little topic, maybe it will help us understand each other better.
I would like to see the evolutionist/athist/agnostics take the side of the YEC/OEC/and fundamentalists.
I want both sides to actually try their hardest to put forward a well thought out convincing argument. So evolutionists, no hovind.
This is not to be a mockery, but an honest attempt at seeing how possible it would be to have the argument switch sides, and perhapse learn a little.
This will especially be interesting to see crashfrog and Rhain who I think would make spectacular devils advocates. Their arguments and logic are great. Likewise, it will be neat to see what Hangdawg or Buzzsaw will do with the Evolution side.
So lets have at it folks, the topic is, (of cource) Old Earth versus Young Earth. Prove your side!
heheh

This is about the only argument that I could offer that I haven't personally refuted:
We know the Earth is 6,000 years old because that's how far back human recorded history goes before it stops.

Really makes you think... I'd start with Old earth/evolutionists simply don't comprehend the power of God. We are talking about a being with the power to create universes at whim, yet some how you doubt he could create a young planet, new life and break the laws of physics as he pleased? God is all powerful, there is nothing he cannot do, so to believe in such a being requiring millions of years, or a process such as evolution is simply ignoring the power he weilds.
You have to remember that Christians are a vast majority of the population, atheists are just the nagging minority. Christians are the majority because God has led the way for the true believers, and his works and teachings have lead many people to the true religion. If there was doubt then the church wouldn't be as strong as it is, but its very strength speaks volumes about the beliefs being true.

No one can refute that God created the Earth 6000 years ago because all of the data that suggest a old Earth simply does so because the process of his creation left the appearance of a Earth of 4.5 billion years.

Argh, 1.61803 took my argument.
I am going to go with 12,000 years instead of 6,000 thousand though, since a day of creation could have been a thousand years to the Lord. Therefore, each of the six creation days is 6,000 and the 6,000 years since then for a total of 12,000 years.
I will also state that the fossils are not dead, but rather lifeforms that did not come to life. As in Genesis, God asks the earth to bring forth life. Therefore, the fossils we see are species held in check until they are needed to populate the earth.

Brilliant! Simply Brilliant!
Thus, fossils are actualy proof god brings things fourth from the earth!
So all the homonid fossils are actually men who were not needed yet so simply left in the "mould".
duh!
Wow, thats a heck of a good one.

Oh,crap! We'll be buried in brachiopods and trilobites when the time arrives.......
I love it! That's one good, "sensible" argument I've never seen a creationist use!

Leaving aside the fact that Evolution is a THEORY and not a fact, I'd be interested to know Evolutionists are afraid to engage creationists in a debate?
Surely if you have so much PROOF, you would be quite happy to do so?
Surely it is fear that your theory will remain just that, a theory!

All of the prophesys in the Bible are confirmed by actual events that have been recorded in the new testament. God is not the storm, but the peace after the storm. It is not God that destorys or causes harm but mans temptation into evil by Satan that infects the Earth with evil. The fossils are examples of Satan trying to mislead man into believing in a old Earth by planting false evidence. Sheesh don't ya'll know anything!!!*typo

OK, I'll play.
"Although physical measurements indicate a billions of years old universe, they do not reflect the real age of the universe. The universe is indeed 6,000 years old. The fundamental physical constants have been fine tuned and adjusted in real time in precisely the correct ratios to produce an apparent age/real age ratio corresponding to what is observed. The observed isotope ratios
are also a consequence of this constant non-constancy.
Science cannot currently detect this shift, but Dembski's design filter, when properly refined , will be able to detect it, ushering in a revolutionary new era in scientific thought."
