The Big Bang, according to a 24-year-old "political officer" at NASA, is not even a "theory," but just an "opinion." And this kid apparently has the power to forbid actual scientists to give interviews on global warming, as well. And you can guess who appointed him.

...we have political officers? Can any of the Bush apologists explain to me how we haven't become the Soviet Union?

"political" is in quotes
quote:
...we have political officers?
Not yet. It appears that the guy is actually a public-affairs officer.
quote:
Can any of the Bush apologists explain to me how we haven't become the Soviet Union?
That is an easy one. The US is becoming a fascist nation. From Wikipedia:
quote:
Fascism is typified by totalitarian attempts to impose state control over all aspects of life: political, social, cultural, and economic. The fascist state regulates and controls (as opposed to nationalizing) the means of production. Fascism exalts the nation, state, or race as superior to the individuals, institutions, or groups composing it. Fascism uses explicit populist rhetoric; calls for a heroic mass effort to restore past greatness; and demands loyalty to a single leader, often to the point of a cult of personality.

Topic pretty marginal to the creation/evolution dabate - Topic move/closure soon
As per the subtitle, this is not really "In The News" material.
Going to move it to the "Coffee House" real soon, so hold off on futher replies for a bit, or you will be posting to a closed topic.
I'm also going to tweek the topic title a bit, before the move is made.
Please stand by.

Re: Topic pretty marginal to the creation/evolution dabate - Topic move/closure soon
Why is a YEC trying to censor scientific material because of his religious beliefs of only "marginal" relevance to the creation/evolution debatw ??

Side note on why the topic was moved
I was going mostly on what was said in message 1, which emphasised the global warming issue as much as anything. I had only lightly skimmed the linked article. Reading the article more closely, I now see there was a religious content to it, although nowhere (unless I missed something) is YECism mentioned.
I still don't see the topic theme as being much of a creation/evolution issue, rather it is more of a general GW Bush science policy issue. We shall see where the topic goes. Be the move right or wrong, it's in the "Coffee House" now.
Concerning the "link not working" problem - There is now a note at the cited page. The page was getting linked to heavily and was also accumulating a lot of replies. It was having a bandwidth overload problem, so it was shut down for a while.

Re: Side note on why the topic was moved
YEC is not explicitly mentioned. However we know that the person in question objects to the Big Bang on religious grounds. In context an inference that he is a YEC is warranted.

Frightening. Makes one wonder where all that money Bush just mentioned in the SoTU earmarked for science and math is going to go. Faith based science and math?

Re: Works fine for me
I had trouble with a number of links on badastronomy ...
A quick note.
When you first reported that you were unable to access the site, I check and was also unable to access it. Maybe there was a DoS attack; maybe the site was temporarily down; maybe a router was down. I was able to access it later.
Checking again now, the site is responding (not timing out). But it is slow, and shows an error page rather than the page I should have loaded.
Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host's database server is down.
The site does appear to have problems.
