A Young Bush Appointee Resigns His Post at NASA
The NASA official who made a stink about the big bang being just a theory has resigned. It would seem that he lied on his resume; he never graduated college.
Go figure.

Re: That's a subscribe site
Oops! Sorry! To make it up, here's a link to the site of the guy who first broke the story.
He makes an interesting point about the whole brouhaha:
...instead of the story being about a 24-year-old lying, it should be about this: how did this guy, who already had dubious qualifications, make it into NASA with such an obvious lie on his resume? To work for a federal agency, including NASA, extensive background checks are usually required. If I was able to uncover the truth about Deutsch in one phone call, then he must have been placed in his current position without any investigation, due to his loyal service on the Bush presidential campaign.

I also posted this here, an hour later:

Oh well. After the Dover fiasco with a whole lot of perjury going on, it's not too surprising to see an IDer caught lying.

Out of curiosity, does nobody have a response to this? Bush defenders? People who want a Biblical point of view taken seriously?
People who... you know... wonder if maybe background checks should be performed when giving someone government security clearance?
This is pretty solid evidence of Bush appointing people to positions based not on their qualifications, but on whether or not they will advance a specific agenda.

I read some interview with him and he said he didn't actually lie on his resume, he was just planning ahead for when he did graduate, but failed to update his resume. Uh huh. So he's either a liar or a dipshit.
No professional gives out a 'future' bogus resume, especially when applying for a job at NASA.
As a government employee, I can confirm that we employees get background checks. I had to fill out a 5-page form asking for previous addresses (back 5 years), jobs with names of supervisors, names of people who could vouch for my character, and an updated and current resume. I do not know, however, if they called my degree-granting school or my current school to make sure I had the degree I stated on my resume.
As for Bush pushing an agenda through appointees, for some I think that's true, but for this guy, I'm not sure. I think it's possible this kid was doing what he thought Bush would like him to do. However, if Bush did appoint him for this specific purpose, I would not be surprised in the least. Scientists where I work have had their research suppressed, changed, or have been forced to re-word/re-write certain aspects of it.
I think it's time to do away with presidential appointees... unless it's to their own little posse of ass wipers.

Having been one I can second that. It was the most probing examination of my life I ever had. I still have a copy of it just so if I forget some obscure aspect of my life I can look it up.

I second this as well. I have mentioned before (somewhere else at EvC), among other events I have witnessed, a superior announced that they didn't care about science and didn't want it impacting their gov't program, people needed to be made to be scared about something.
It was stunning. The supervisor wanted bad data and did not want anyone interfering with that bad data because propaganda was more important. Though I am sure that person had a real resume, it contained nothing to do with science which is disturbing given their control of scientists and science reports at a science organization.
