Apparently a 1/5th scale model. Short story, plus quite a few photos. Damn, what a tub. Wonder where Noah got the glass from? No sign of the methane vents, poo pipes, large critter restraints, water supply system, frozen bacteria, herbarium, dehydrated food supplies--------
Looks like another Christian scam.

This is a great first step. I would be very pleased to see when he begins to put in 1/5 of the worlds "kinds" onto the boat. Not only will this proove me wrong that they wont fit, but I will also have the pleasure of seeing first hand the definition of "kind".
As I say, this is a great first step. Currently he has only proven he can make a boat, but I am sure he must intend to take this further.

I reckon Ken Ham should get his flock to raise the necessary donations so his new "museum" can buy it as an exhibit! Will be the star attraction. He can even throw some dinosaur models in there with the people...

I would be very pleased to see when he begins to put in 1/5 of the worlds "kinds" onto the boat. Small quibble: scale is linear, volume is cubic, so volume would be 1/125. But yeah, this was my first thought too. Stuffed animals don't cut it - they don't need food or slop cleaning. Enjoy. compare Fiocruz Genome and fight Muscular Dystrophy with Team EvC! Small quibble: scale is linear, volume is cubic, so volume would be 1/125. From the source cite in message 1:
quote: I'm not sure if the 1/5th is in length or volume. The 2/3s (US, I presume) football field would be about 180-200 feet, or about 60 meters. What's that in cubits, and what were the Biblical specs? I also wouldn't mind seeing the detailed Biblical schematic designs. In all, a rather light "In The News" topic. I hesitated in posting it, but it did seem to have at least some merit as a topic. Moose

or about 60 meters. What's that in cubits, I believe a cubit (one standard egyptian fingertip to elbow) is about 19" or ~1/2 meter (close enough for who it's for) so this would be ~120 cubits long. The KJV has
quote: So that is definitely NOT 1/5 scale but closer to 120/300 = 0.4 = 2/5ths and the volume would be 8/125 = ~1/15th. Wrong both ways? Or is this creationist math? I also wouldn't mind seeing the detailed Biblical schematic designs. I took the time to query wikipedia and came up with this info on the cubit.
The different Jewish cubits ( ama) are generally borrowed either from Babylonians or Greeks or Romans. In ancient Israel during the First Temple period, the cubit was 428.1 mm (= 26/27 Roman cubit). During the Second Temple period, a cubit of about 444.5 mm (= Roman cubit) was in general use, but in the sacred areas of the temple a special cubit of 437.6 mm seems to have been used instead (= 63/64 Roman cubit).[1] So we have a range of 428-444 mm. Then the distance of 60 meters corresponds to a cubit measure of 135-140 cubits. The Biblical entry has the length of the ark at 300 cubits by 50 cubits width and 30 cubits height.I will work hard on finding the engineering drawings but you know how jealous some of these guys are of their work eh?

Well, the news story said "two-thirds of a football field. Not a very precise figure, but I took it to be somewhere in the vicinity of 60 meters. The story also threw out the "The ark described in the Bible was five times larger" phrase, but I wouldn't hold them to that being real precise either.
I certainly wouldn't sweat what the actual scale is. What would have truly been impressive, is if he had built it full scale. Sidelined came up with the 400+ meter figure; I haven't checked his math. Moose

The ark's builder is a devout Christian and hopes his creation leads people to study the Bible. He said he plans to sail it to several European towns. Let's take out the stuffed animals and put in some real ones.
what's with the barge it's on? can't it float on it's own? Probably not built to the standards for their shipping regulatory bodies.
