Many users have requested a change to their user name, but this hasn't been possible - until now! Simply go to the profile page where you'll see a new field at the top called Primary Username. You can change your username to any name not already owned by another member. Other aliases you've had in the past are listed below. You own these names. Forever. You can change back to old aliases, but no one else can use them.
Old message pages will not reflect the new user name until they are rebuilt, but your old aliases are still you, and you can always use them. But no matter which alias you use to submit a message, it will always appear under your primary username.

Hm, Question!

This feature of changing users aliases is very cool. It should be a nice addition to the EvC Board. Although, I do have one question; I am presuming that the IP of your computer automatically notifies you (the Admin) that you are that user and, indeed, that is your own password, correct? I just would like to understand this a bit more in detail, I suppose, even though it is rather straight-forward. I just wouldn't want someone else by using various methods of hacking into your account, then they could apply to your own Evc ID.

Ah, very cool indeed. So basically the old aliases serve as an inventory to pick and choose what were your old aliases. That is very neat feature for EvC cyberspace.

You can use your EvC Forum username/password from any computer. While the computer's IP is logged for every message, it isn't part of accessing your account. Registration is an automated process in which board administration isn't personally involved, but email notifications are sent to Admin. No notification is sent for profile changes.
I just would like to understand this in a bit more in detail...
Each member is assigned a unique ID number when they register. This ID number never changes, it isn't externally accessible, and neither is its unique password. No matter how many username aliases you define for your account, it still has only one user ID number, and still only one password associated with it.
I just wouldn't want someone else by using various methods of hacking into your account...
EvC Forum has a number of security features to detect hacking attempts, but hacking Internet websites is always possible. On the other hand, there's probably little to be gained by hacking into an account here. I check the "hack attempt" log periodically, and it's always empty.

Lam - Alias feature abuse???
I don't think the alias feature was intended for members to have a "name of the week". As I type this, the member originally known as "Lam" has 7 different aliases.
Lam, shall we pick one, and stick with it?

Re: Lam - Alias feature abuse???
yo RH:
My two cents: it was much more fun, and far less confusing, when you occasionally changed your alias but always kept a "lam" somewhere in there...
It's much easier to maintain the connection (and enjoy the creativity) between Lam, Laminator, and Lama-dama-ding-dong; than between Jacen, Troy, and Hector...

Re: Lam - Alias feature abuse - part n
Where is the #*%! is Waldo?
Lam is now Troy. Troy as in Trojan Horse, to sneak yet another homosexuality themed topic in?
Mike the Wiz is now Dilbert fine hog.
I think the software needs to limit the alias's to maybe about 3 maximum.
All these alias's add to the length of the member listings also.

Try to say that out loud in public and watch the straightjacket coming on.
Better yet, dress up like Adminnemooseus first.

Re: Lam - Alias feature abuse - part n
Tee hee hee.
Oh this is so unfair, Charles has just gave me a new idea for an alias, "General Zod".
Please let me use it Minnemoose.
I like the idea of saying "kneel before Zod, irrefutable Zod".

Re: Lam - Alias feature abuse - part n
I dislike the alias feature intensely. Could there perhaps be a viewing option to make it use their "real" username? Or perhaps it could appear in small letters underneath their name, as a sort of AKA?
