As per mention in http://EvC Forum: Trimming down the bulk - Proposed topics to be deleted -->EvC Forum: Trimming down the bulk - Proposed topics to be deleted, I have uploaded a test zipped file to my personal website.
It's at http://www.lakenet.com/~mnmoose/zipped.zip
It is the zipped version of the 31 pages of William Scott's first flood topic. Zipped, this material runs 712,191 bytes. That is 20% of the sum of the source files.
I haven't done a test download and unzipping. The graphic of the pages may or may not appear - they are NOT included in the zipped file. Your browser may manage to pull the graphic in anyway.
Please comment on this, in this topic. Can you be happy with old, and otherwise deleted topics, being available as such zipped files?

For those who don't have the zip/unzip software, WinZip 8.1 is downloadable at a variety of sites. Links to these sites can be found at:
WinZip for Windows - Zip Files, Unzip Files
Personally, I got my copy form Download.com
The software is shareware. It is free, but everytime you start it up, you'll get a little dialog box asking if you wish to register and pay up. I don't have the charge at hand, but I recall it being c. $21.00 (US).

As I see it, the future of the older topics are to live on archived on the server, as zipped files.
I think this will actually help the access to a lot of information - You can download whole topics, and in the case of the smaller topics, many topics, with just one click.
If you wish, it will make making your own personal archives of topics an easy thing.
Any comments?
