I spoke with him once but it was on logistics rather than physics.
This is from the Cornell Daily Sun which is now free so... I read it.

I second that jar. Another fine man and great intellect is lost to history.The man who first knew how the stars shine through fusion energy can now take his well earned rest.Peace indeed.
