One to one debate

How does one go about having a one-to-one debate with someone. I have a topic in my mind along the lines of "A proof of God" but would prefer the benefits of a more restful, considered approach of a one-to-one than the cut and thrust of an open forum thread.Questions:is there a mechanism for a one-to-one where only two people (and moderator) contribute.how does one go about getting a suitable 'opponent' to debate. I was going to suggest something like posting the thread openly and having folk put up a rebuttal of the OP, then by some means, choosing the 'best' rebuttal and then moving the lot to a closed, moderated forumhow does a moderator get chosen?

Many times our 1-1 debates evolve out of a particular thread where one opponent seems to come to the fore. Other times it is suggested by one member specifically targeting another. You could, as you suggest, post a topic and request that only those who wish to be considered for a Great Debate respond and pick from there.Moderators can be anyone. We can take turns moderating or one or more can be picked from the group. We can have a lot of power in keeping things on track or we can be there only for general issues. The debate can be scored or not. These are all things that you would either make part of your topic proposal or would agree on with what ever opponent you choose.
