Admin(s)
How about taking the "Post Reply" button (the one next to the "Post New Topic" button at the foot of the page, away.
(I mean this one:
)
That way, all replies would have to be channelled through the messages themselves and casual readers could follow the conversations. Personally, I can't see what benefit the button at the bottom serves.

Hi PE,
Great suggestion! I know we've all faced the same problem in tracing discussions. I've added this to the list of things to do, but at this point can't be sure how the problem will be addressed. The button *does* have its uses. For instance, admins use it when posting general information to a thread, eg, "Moving this thread to the such-and-so forum..." Perhaps making the button less obvious and adding some reminder text about using the message reply icon when replying to a specific message. I'm open to ideas. Thanks for the suggestion.

In that case, can we not make it a feature only available to Admin (much like the "close thread button")?
Else I'll be forced to accuse you of creationist bias
