We have now seen what happens when someone pops into the , and starts 12 new topics in 10 days.
4 of those topics were quickly closed, but several other topics have been spun off of the remaining 8.
(Now letting my evolution side bias show) -
What we have, is an "expert" on many things, being "forced" to spread himself too thin.
Everyone, let's try to get some increased focus happening. The alternative is to close many topics, and to try to start them up in a less chaotic fashion.
I may be wrong. I may even be babbling.
Have a nice day,
Adminnemooseus
ps: Note that when you look over a forum listing (be it all the topics, or a specific forum), you will only see a listing of a certain number of the most recent topics (I believe the default value is 45). To see a more all inclusive list, one must set the value to something higher, such as "75" or "all topics". I bring this up, in reference to the new Mt. Saint Helens topic. The pre-existing topic had been about the 50th most recently active of the geology topics, and as such did not appear on the listing of the most recently active 45.

Thanks
Now I know why i missed it last night. I'll check more carefully.
Note to BBC --
You are getting into a mess keeping up with all the conversations going on. It must be very difficult.
The problem is you started to much all at once. And you still start up new areas of discussion without finishing any old ones. How about avoiding that? A clean end to a discussion would be that both parties agree to disagree or one party admits that the information they had was wrong. If we get to that point on a few then it will be simpler.
(as there ever been an admission of error posted?)

AdMoose, I think your assessment of "What we have, is an "expert" on many things, being "forced" to spread himself too thin." is overly generous.
Such behaviour (the shotgun approach) is typical of the troll. It is a technique demonstrated by Hovind and seems to have been adopted by Booboo. It allows the perpetrator to make various assertions but be too busy to provide any citation or supporting evidence. If the kitchen becomes too hot then "other commitments" invariably become too pressing for the perpetrator to provide anything more than truncated, selective responses or to disappear without trace.
I hope that such behaviour in the future will receive prompt administration attention. If the person is genuine I'm sure that they will recognise the danger of overextending themselves. If they are a troll the behaviour will speak for itself.

The day of his first appearance, Booboocruise started 10 topics. 2 of them were closed down almost immediately. As I recall, 1 was redundant to the others, and the 2nd consisted of answers that should have been directed to the other more specific topics.
In hindsight, I probably should have closed about 8 topics, at least temporarily, and only left 2 open. I've learned the lesson. Next time a newbie (or anyone) starts a bunch of topics all at once, more drastic action should be taken.

So now we have to make an example of him and make an attempt at the online equivalent of public humiliation?

So, is there a problem with making public comment about someone's public behaviour?

humiliation
I think he will manage any humiliation himself. Give him a little time.

My intent was to make an example of him, as someone who got over gung-ho, and succeeded in spreading himself too thin.

I made it explicit, that part of my view was perhaps tainted by my evo-perspective. Booboocruise did seem to come into things with a pretty arrogant attitude. With many new topics, and that attitude, he did get jumped on pretty hard.
Who knows, maybe things with BBC will settle down. Others have started off in rather frantic ways, and have worked out well, in the longer run.

re: tomwillrep
I bump this topic, because tomwillrep is showing signs of being a somewhat less extreme variation on the theme of booboocruise. He has started 6 new topics in the last 2 days.
I encourage restraint on the part of the evolution side, and I suggest that tomwillrep beware of spreading himself too thin.
Also, there seems to be some problems with the same themes showing up in more than one of the new topics. Let's all try to get commentary into the correct topic.
One or more of tomwillrep's new topics may need closing down.
