I just noticed that if you try to edit a post there is an option on the bottom left that says "post as new thread". When I tried to do this in practice forum, it said, "You did not complete all required form fields! Please go back and re-enter" even though I entered everything I thought necessary.
What is the purpose of this option and how can we make it work?

It's a known problem and being worked on. Hopefully it will be working again soon.

You forgot to answer the first question.

Sorry, thought that was understood. The purpose is to allow a particular message to be moved to start a new thread. This is particularly useful when there is an important post that is OT for the existing thread. With that option it could be spun off by the author or administrator to start a new topic.

I was wondering if I could get my name changed to "JustinC". I originally had that name, but then forgot the password. Maybe you could just tell me the password if the account is still open. If it's been closed, I guess I could probably just open up another one.

I was wondering if I could get my name changed to "JustinC" Just go into your profile and define a new alias as JustinC.

You actually have 2 other ID's(JustinC and JustinCi), neither of which have ever posted. JustinCy could not adopt JustinC as an alias, since that name is already taken.
I will delete both JustinC and JustinCi. Then JustinC will be available for you to take on as an alias. Adminnemooseus Added by edit - deletions done. This message has been edited by Adminnemooseus, 01-19-2005 20:36 AM

Continuing with the short question w/o new thread theme...
Is there a proper forum for bringing up newly published journal articles? For instance, in this month's Nature journals I've come across a review article on "The Genetic Theory of Adaptation" and 2 editorials on the evolution/creation debate. I think they'd be interesting reading for many here. "Links and Information" perhaps?

Yes Links an Information is the correct place.
There is no discussion there but someone reading might want to propose a topic discussing something in those links. It is helpful to give a quick summary of what is said so others will know if they might want to read it.

Thanks! You're right, there isn't much potential for discussion, but I thought it was nice to see a mainstream scientific journal address the increasingly public debate. There's much more meat to the review article, so I'll see if I can get a topic out of it.

I forgot the formula that you use when you want to put another poster's quoted words in a box. I also forgot where to find the formula.

When you are editing your post there is a line : dBCodes On (help) to the left. Click on the help.
An easier way might be to use the Peek button at the bottom right of all posts. If you click that you will be shown exactly what that poster entered. Any time you see something you like, have a peek.

I have read in the rules that I am not to make the same points of someone else or bring up old topics, and I can understand why that rule is there. Because if you have people always repeating what has already been said, then things get kinda boring! But I'm sure that there are tons of posts(thousands and thousands), and I really don't want to go searching through 15 pages of posts before I can say something. What should I do?

I think that rule applies mostly within a given topic. If you make a claim, that claim is addressed or rebutted, then you just keep making the claim.
In certain cases there have been times when someone comes in and starts a new thread on a topic that has been beaten to death. If that is the case then usually someone who knows about it will point the new poster to an already open thread discussing that topic so that they can read through just that one and potentially continue the discussion there. In many instances though, if it has been long enough, the repeated topic is allowed to continue due to the cobwebs on the older topic. Your best case is just ask. Go ahead and post a new topic. The Admins are usually pretty amiable to sincere attempts to start a good discussion even if it is repeated. It really depends on what you want to say. If it's on one of the creationist websites, the odds are very high that we've dealt with it about a million times.
