It appears that Australopithecus sediba could be classified as an australopithecine or homo -- it seems to have an interesting set of intermediary characteristics. I have only read about this from a lay person's point of view. Does anyone here agree with this scientist quoted in The Guardian?
"These fossils give us an extraordinarily detailed look into a new chapter of human evolution, and provide a window into a critical period when hominids made the committed change from dependency on life in the trees to life on the ground," said Prof Berger. "Sediba may very well be the Rosetta stone that unlocks our understanding of the genus Homo."
Sounds exciting!
Edited by Adminnemooseus, : Added the "(Australopithecus sediba)" to the topic title.

I'm really impressed by the rate of discovery in this area.
Laelaps has a good blog post on this.

I'll wait
It does sound exciting. But I'll wait for some peer review and additional outside analysis. Initial claims sometimes are found to be in error.
I would love to see the bones! I did a lot of my grad work in human osteology and fossil man, and the artists reconstructions annoy me greatly! Who cares what they think the facial features look like -- I want to see the bones!

Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge.

Re: I'll wait
The papers are in this weeks edition of science, you can see the bones there.
