Perhaps it was just my local, or even national, audio hookup. But, here in Toronto-area Canada, I could barely hear any music during the half-time show.
The voices came through loud and clear, just sans any music to drown out any minor vocal errancies.
I'm not a big music guy, and I like pretty much everything. The Black Eyed Peas aren't especially higher or lower to me. I like the songs and think they have a half-decent beat to go with them. Sure, they can't sing. But who can these days anyway? I still think they're "whole package" is just as good as anything else I listen to.
But the result of listening to just the vocals and having no music at all just destroyed the facade completely and the truth of their horrible singing came through without anything to temper it.
Did anyone else (I'm mostly curious about the US) have this same audio issue?
It was pretty entertaining making fun of the vocals for half-an-hour, though
"I bet they think they're putting on an awesome show! Just wait 'till they get home and listen to the recording!!"

Sounded great to me, was watching live over this side of the pond. Couple of complete cutouts on the sound but that's about it - and that happened throughout the game too.
I thought this was going to be about Aguilera's minor hiccup over the line O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming. Though, of course, it is being touted in the US media as something absolutely appalling.
edit: I should also note that I've generally been of the opinion they are mediocre singers, so I guess I didn't notice anything different in that respect.

Hi, Stile.
I did notice that Fergie's microphone didn't kick in until she was a few words into her first line, but the only time I noticed the music was missing was when Slash was playing and nothing was coming out. That was quite disappointing, by the way, because Slash was the best the halftime show had to offer musically.
Overall, I thought the show was pretty fun (if overly goofy), but I was very upset that the Black-Eyed Peas showed up to ruin it.

Poo.
I mean... good for you...
I suppose, by taking my initial feelings after hearing that, this means I generally want everyone else to wallow in the same torture I had to endure?

Nah, I didn't even know 'till this morning. Probably 'cause I don't really care about the words in anthems, especially in some other country's.
But, now that we're mentioning it... I seem to recall the camera going onto one of Green Bay's guys at some point during the anthem and he was all looking around with a "did that just happen?" kind of gaze... perhaps that occured at the same time as they lyric mishap?
Maybe not, but that would be funny
I should also note that I've generally been of the opinion they are mediocre singers
Yeah, I wasn't expecting awesomeness... just acceptableness.

The Black Eyed Peas - Now with Dynamo!

Yeah, noticed that too. Didn't have an issue with that though. Minor hiccups can be forgiven when they throw a stage together that quickly, I suppose.
...but the only time I noticed the music was missing was when Slash was playing and nothing was coming out
Oh? Yeah, I never knew that. Probably on account of me not hearing any music for the entire session...
I thought that was the best-of-the-worst as far as the singing went, though.

My favourite joke of the halftime show:
"When did the Black Eyed Peas pick up Dynamo?"
(Dynamo is a sub-villain from the old Running Man movie)

Yup, happened at that point I didn't know she had mixed the line up, but I could tell something was wrong because she kind of lost her confident delivery by the end of the line when she must have realized she had sung the wrong bit - and the memory was sealed when I saw the look on that guy's face.
Yeah, I wasn't expecting awesomeness... just acceptableness.
That's your problem right there. I was expecting awfulness and perceived something acceptable I would agree that this has one notable exception
Which was a little karaoke.

Actually, the quality of that video is towards what was coming out of my TV. Even in the video I'd say the "music" is too low in comparison with with vocals. Does anyone else think so? Or am I just a horrible music critic in the general sense?
However, the end result on my TV was much worse... could hardly make out the guitar at all, and the vocals were even more powerful.
Karaoke is right. Now imagine karaoke night with the music removed...

I like the way he segues effortlessly from Christina Aguilera to 9/11 Truther ramblings.

Actually, that makes a lot more sense to me and clears things up.
I wasn't familiar with the Black Eyed Peas. I've heard a couple of their stupid songs on the radio, but I didn't really know who they were or what they did.
The half time show was the first time I've seen them live...
I was all, wtf is the point of these four people being up there? They're not playing instruments, only two of them are singing. What's up with all four of them up there in goofy clothes dancing around?
What, exaxtly, are they supposed to be doing? What do you call that?
I see now... they were simply "entertaining".

They're producers, for the most part, which means their "instrument" is a recording studio.
I dunno, you can have differing ideas about the amount of talent and training necessary to be a "good" producer, but regardless that's not a set of skills that lends itself to live performance.
You're right that having the BEP on stage (or in a video) is pretty stupid.
