Was the site down for a majority of the morning? I kept getting errors when trying to access EvC all morning......(I just want to make sure it wasn't my end because it was fine as soon as I got to work). What Happened
I've been at work all day, but I had the opposite problem. I can access the site from home, but not from work. So, what happened? Well, last evening Seattle experienced a minor power failure, and the data center housing our server was affected. Backup generators failed to power up, the data center ran on batteries for as long as they lasted, then the servers went down. You can read all about it here, only the entries for the SEA2 data center are relevant:
But we're not all the way back up yet. Given the small number of posts today, I think that most of the world is still unable to access EvC Forum. My guess is that null DNS addresses for SEA2 webservers were distributed while the data center was down, and anyone served by DNS servers that picked up the null addresses can no longer access EvC Forum. But that's just a guess. I have not as yet been able to contact an actual person at our webhosting company. I'll post more when I know more, but my hope is that full world-wide access to EvC Forum will be available by tomorrow morning.

Re: What Happened
EvC Forum should be back up world-wide now. Here's more information on what happened. Apparently it was not a DNS problem but a problem with the server itself. When the power came back up at the data center early Thursday morning, many servers would have automatically rebooted simultaneously. I can only surmise that our server somehow became initialized with bad DNS information, but we were unable to track the problem down to anything specific. By this morning we were out of ideas and so I rebooted the server. This fixed the problem. I apologize for the inconvenience. Please post to this thread if you still can't access the site. Just kidding, but if you can access the site but uncover some kind of related problem, then please post here. Please let any member you might know through other websites that they should send email to Admin if they still cannot access the site. Edited by Admin, : Grammar.

Re: What Happened
I thought it was all at my end as we had "Hurricane Bawbag" blow through here yesterday. Got powercuts, tree on house etc, but missed EvC the most.

UK here. The above ontological example models the zero premise to BB theory. It does so by applying the relative uniformity assumption that the alleged zero event eventually ontologically progressed from the compressed alleged sub-microscopic chaos to bloom/expand into all of the present observable order, more than it models the Biblical record evidence for the existence of Jehovah, the maximal Biblical god designer. -Attributed to Buzsaw Message 53 Moreover that view is a blatantly anti-relativistic one. I'm rather inclined to think that space being relative to time and time relative to location should make such a naive hankering to pin-point an ultimate origin of anything, an aspiration that is not even wrong. Well, Larni, let's say I much better know what I don't want to say than how exactly say what I do.

I couldn't access the site for a few days(from work anyway). This is my first time on since then. I tried sending about three emails to you last night wondering if it was my end or the site, all of them failed to get thru. I recieved failure notices for each one of them. It seems if the site is down emails won't get thru either.

Re: What Happened
Hi Chuck, I didn't make note of the specific times, but the failure probably lasted from approximately 9 PM Eastern Time US on Wednesday until around 8 AM on Friday. The same server that hosts the website also hosts the email accounts.

Re: Links In Humor Thread
What happens when you click on them? It is possible the problem is at your end, as the videos work for me. Is anyone else having problems viewing videos posted to EvC Forum?
