Author | Topic: Laws in the US that restrict the rights of Christians | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

In the thread D James Kennedy is dead Nator makes a great comment in Message 24:
Nator writes: And perhaps you can list for me all of the laws all of these "leftist" groups have succeeded in putting into place that have limited your freedom to live as you wish? This brings up an excellent point. It is cliche for many conservative Christians to comment various versions of the "I don't have any problems with atheists, leftists, etc. except when they try to take away my right to be Christian". So I thought it would be instructive to hear specific laws which are designed to restrict Christianity. To keep this thread from going OT or into a discussion of morality, I want to exclude laws that allow things that Christians are opposed too. For example, a law which legalizes same-sex marriage would be off topic UNLESS that law forced same-sex marriage to those opposed to it. I also want to avoid vague anecdotal claims like the War on Christmas. Nearly every state and federal law in this country can be referenced online, so it would be instructive to provide links so that we can all research the specific statutes. I would suggest Social Issues as a forum? "I have seen so far because I have stood on the bloated corpses of my competitors" - Dr Burgess Bowder

Correct me if I'm wrong, but christians can't keep interracial couples from marrying anymore. It was, after all, a golden age when the whites were whites and the blacks were blacks like god intended. This was, of course, before them liberals started oppressing the christians by allowing blacks to marry whites.

I don't know if they are still on the books, but several Southern states used to outlaw sodomy. Such laws, we now know, were specifically directed against Evangelical and Catholic clergy.

For example, a law which legalizes same-sex marriage would be off topic UNLESS that law forced same-sex marriage to those opposed to it. but the problem is that this is precisely what they're talking about. they think they have a right to tell other people how to live their lives. and that "right" is being restricted.

If I understand the story correctly racism did not exist before Darwin. Therefore laws restricting the marriage of white people to those of African descent were of Evilutionist design. Good Christians of the time were all for interracial marriage, but evolutionists were opposed to such things. Read your history, man!

yeah, that's cute, except that the old testament is rife with racism. for instances, all the other people groups who were clearly bastards and needed to die. and then the egyptians who were hung like donkeys. don't forget the "don't marry non-jews" that god himself commanded.
also, people have been holding those of different races as below them for untold centuries. racism wasn't created by darwin. the field of social darwinism invented "scientific" excuses to continue the evil practices of the past against the arguments of the enlightened present.

Over the years, I have heard many many christians complaining how their rights are being taken away by the liberals. You'd think that given the chance for them to list the certain christian rights being violated they'd provide us with a nice long list.
