Some crazy dude is going to balloon himself to the edge of space and then use the fact that there is no real atmosphere to attempt a sky-dive that reaches supersonic speed. It’s mental!!!
Here is a link to the news story Link
And here is a link to the live feed for those interested: Live Feed Link
It starts in half an hour (i.e. 17:00GMT on 9th October 2012)

And by starts...
...it really mean starts. They're still on the ground! How long does it take for a balloon to get that high?

Ahem. 3 hours. Approx. Apparently. Just looked this up.
I really hadn't thought this at-my-work-pc viewing experience through had I?
Mrs Straggler would not be amused at me getting home at midnight just so I could watch some dare-devil ascend for three hours and then make a (sub) ten min drop.
On the plus side - Next time they try I know to ignore the kickk-off and tune in a couple hours later.

Thanks for the heads-up F&L, got it on now.
And I thought it took forever to get up to 15,000ft for a jump!
Fingers crossed for Felix, he is one hell of a guy. Can't wait to get my business sold then I can get back to crazy shit

Re: Jumping Today

Re: Jumping Today
He's now above Joseph Kettinger's record jump height and just 2000ft off the highest ever manned balloon flight.
However, he does have this visor-heater issue. If they can't get this working, this will probably end up being "simply" the highest ever manned balloon ride.

Re: Jumping Today - world record ballonn flight!
Going to jump anyway, visor heater be damned.
Had to vent some helium to stop ascent, wonder how high he could go?
