In a moment of extreme boredom, while I was perusing my profile page, I noticed that my stated post rate is 0.5 messages per day. I have been a member since 2/25/2006 for a total of 2435 days with 3163 total messages. This equates to a rate of 1.3 messages per day. I did notice that my total in the forum in which I have posted the most, 1251, does come to a rate of 0.5 messages per day. I have two questions.
Is it possible that the rate is being based only on the posts I make in the Coffee House forum?
Do I have entirely too much time on my hands?

When I look at my "Topic Index" page, and hover the mouse over the words "Post rate" it says "Average post rate over the last 90 days."

Ah! I see.
Yes, it does that on my page as well.
Well, that seems to have answered it. I'm not nearly bored enough to count my posts for the last 90 days to see if the math works out, so I'm more than happy to accept that explanation.
