Evening approaches. The house has been cleaned as far in as anyone can see when standing at the door.
All that is left now is to sit and wait. Hopefully tonight's turnout of mini beggars will be good. I honestly don't think my teeth could handle all the leftovers.

Love your enemies!

Hallowed Evening, holes in teeth
I worked at the grocery store. Just about every customer bought 3-5 bags of candy...roughly ten dollars apiece. Later in the evening, the dressed up adult partygoers came in, buying drink mixers, red bull, and snacks.
My church had an alternative offering called Hayride In Da Hood. A Horse drawn wagon pulled the kids from Denvers inner city Sun Valley housing projects around the neighborhood. Music is played, candy is given freely. Prayer tents are offered to the parents should they desire, but we never force any message on anyone except that we want their kids to have a safe and fun time.

I was at the drugstore wondering why people buy big bags of candy at 10 PM on Halloween. I hope they're not like the people who do next year's Christmas shopping on December 26th.

The number of "trick or treat" kids was quite low this year.
Perhaps it was the cold weather with gusty winds. Or perhaps those young kids have grown up and prefer to spend their time with online computer gaming.

I have gotten the same number of kids I had this year that I did every year of the last 27 years.. absolutely zero. I guess being in the woods doesn't make trick or treating cost effective.

Yes.
And the scariest thing is that the outcome is pretty much certain

I cast my blue chip into the sea of red. Once the GOP takes the senate will we get to blame them for nothing getting done?

That will certainly be interesting. I wonder how they will feel about negotiating with Obama in order to get those bills signed. More to the point, can a Republican Senate and House agree on a bill.

In a strange way, I think Obama may get more done with a Republican controlled Congress. If R's want to at least look like they are trying to run the government, they will have to pass some bills. To pass those bills, they will have to negotiate with Obama.
Before, R's could get in the way of everything, and then try to act like it was the D's fault. If the election goes as planned, they no longer have that excuse. They may actually have to try and govern.

Re: Election night
... They may actually have to try and govern.
And they will start by trying to dismantle everything that has been done in spite of their obstructionism.
You can also expect more threat of impeachment and budget cuts.
Global climate change will be ignored.
Appointments will not be approved unless they approve them. One more republican supreme court judge will be deadly.
More rulings on money being allowed, businesses to do what they like.
You can expect them to use the "nuclear" option to get past any threat of DEM filibuster.
But they may make it easier for DEMs to win in 2016, but there may be too much damage to overcome for decades.

Re: Election night

They would have to impeach Obama and Biden in order to get the veto out of the way. Temporary appointments can be made by executive order. Global climate change was being ignored anyway.
In the end, I think a lame duck Obama can weild a lot more power than Republicans who want to get re-elected. At the same time, Clinton can distance herself from anything Obama does and hopefully win that next election. The Republican Apocolypse can still be forestalled by a Dem in the White House.

Well I wish I could be that optimistic. Obama's record on trying to find pragmatic solutions by throwing his party positions under the bus to get something from the GOP is not encouraging.
