There doesn't seem to be an existing thread for this since i'm barred from the Trump Presidency thread and my old Fake News thread is in Summation Mode. But I have two bits of unrelated news to report anyway so I'm going to dub this a general news thread.
First I want to report on Melania Trump's stern words against the anonymous insider's pathetic attack on Trump as reported in the New York Times: "you are not protecting this country, you are sabotaging it with your cowardly actions." The story:
(CNN)First lady Melania Trump fired back at the anonymous source that stunned the White House with a New York Times op-ed Wednesday. "Freedom of speech is an important pillar of our nation's founding principles and a free press is important to our democracy. The press should be fair, unbiased and responsible," she told CNN in a statement Thursday. The first lady had a specific message for the author: "To the writer of the op-ed -- you are not protecting this country, you are sabotaging it with your cowardly actions." The op-ed author was identified as a "senior Trump administration official" who says they are part of an internal "resistance" working to thwart parts of Trump's agenda and block his worst impulses and was published amid questions of President Donald Trump's fitness and his control over his administration. The first lady's reaction mirrors that of her husband, who on Wednesday called the author "gutless." "Unidentified sources have become the majority of the voices people hear about in today's news. People with no names are writing our nation's history. Words are important, and accusations can lead to severe consequences," she added. "If a person is bold enough to accuse people of negative actions, they have a responsibility to publicly stand by their words and people have the right to be able to defend themselves." The problem is that a lot of people think what this anonymous insider is doing in "resisting" the President is acceptable these days. This is one big reason I think the world is about to come under a nightmare of a global political totalitarianism. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Macron along with other French political leaders attended a Rosh Hashanah service at the Paris synagogue to show support to the French Jewish community who have been coming under anti-Semitic attack due to the growing Muslim population.
French President Emmanuel Macron attended an event at the Great Synagogue of Paris on Tuesday to mark Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year, which is due to start on Sunday evening... Jewish community leaders took the opportunity to share their concerns with the president about rising anti-Semitism in the country. Our rabbis note the upsurge in anti-Semitic acts, said Mergui, also lamenting the dangers and ravages of anti-Jewish speech on social networks... He claimed: After having been for a long time the European country with the greatest Jewish immigration, France has today become the country with the largest Jewish emigration in the world... Macron was given several jars of honey a traditional Jewish gift for Rosh Hashanah to symbolize a sweet new year. Should there be a Rapture of the Church on Rosh Hashanah, scripture seems to show that the Jews will again be the focus of God's work in the world, and it's going to involve a lot of persecution as well as a lot of glory in the end. Rapture or no, the Jews need all the prayers they can get.

I haven't been following Alex Jones for some time though I do get his emails so I can see what stories he's headlining. Lately he's been talking about being under censorship from various angles. Now there's a story about Twitter banning him.
I just saw this headline and don't have time to read through the story right now, but whatever you think of Jones, and he can be a bit of a madman, attempts to silence him are to my mind a harbinger of the kind of totalitarian oppression I see coming down the pike. He's not the only target either. Anyone here willing to stand up for Jones' right to free speech or is silencing him and undermining Trump the new standard of free speech applauded by you all?

I will stand up for the assholes right to free speech but so far no one has censored him and he continues to lie and his audience is too ignorant to even be able to tell he is lying. Being banned from twitter or Facebook is not censorship. The problem is that so many Americans are totally ignorant about the meaning of words. Edited by jar, : appalin spallin

Anyone here willing to stand up for Jones' right to free speech or is silencing him and undermining Trump the new standard of free speech applauded by you all? Alex Jones? The Pizzagate guy? The "Sandy Hook was a false flag operation guy"? Surely free speech doesn't mean that people should be allowed to spread lies and dangerous "theories" with complete impunity. In fact, in holding people like Jones accountable for their baseless lies, private entities like Twitter are exercising their "free speech rights." If you own a business and have a bulletin board where the public can post notices and meetings, surely you retain the right to exercise some control over what can be posted on it.We weaken our greatness when we confuse our patriotism with tribal rivalries that have sown resentment and hatred and violence in all the corners of the globe. -- John McCain

The problem is that a lot of people think what this anonymous insider is doing in "resisting" the President is acceptable these days. For me, this has the same moral implications as "civil disobedience". Whenever someone is in a position where you have to make a decision to go along with something you find unethical or immoral, work within proper channels against the unethical, or violate accepted standards or the law to oppose the immoral, a person is going to make a personal judgment based on their beliefs. In the end, all the person can do is make the best decision they can while trying to be aware of the "unintended" consequences, including the possibility that they may be wrong and that they will not escape legal consequences or the judgment of history. We weaken our greatness when we confuse our patriotism with tribal rivalries that have sown resentment and hatred and violence in all the corners of the globe. -- John McCain

Those who work for the Executive branch have a duty to disobey illegal or unconstitutional orders from the President and perhaps even the immoral orders.

I have a question.
Do you think that Twitter should not be allowed to ban abusive posters at all ? Or do you think that Alex Jones should be exempt ? Please explain why you think that way.

The First Amendment ensures your free speech will not result in you being threatened by a particular government in power. It doesn't say anything about private individuals who may wish to dis-associate themselves from someone who they think is disruptive to their business. A streaker running across a soccer field is not having their free speech infringed upon when security tackles them and takes them away. FYI, Fox News banned a guest recently that claimed torture 'worked' in John McCain when he was in captivity: Fox News Bans Military Guest Who Claimed Torture ‘Worked’ on John McCain So is Fox News now also part of the 'totalitarian oppression'?

So Jones was booted off for posting a video of himself berating someone, a CNN reporter:
Twitter said Jones posted a video on Wednesday that violates the company's policy against "abusive behavior." That video showed Jones berating CNN journalist Oliver Darcy for some 10 minutes in between two congressional hearings on social media. Dorsey testified at both hearings, but did not appear to witness the confrontation. Jones had about 900,000 followers on Twitter. Infowars had about 430,000. Jones did not immediately respond to a request for comment.p Don't really get how this is "abuse." He thinks he said something meaningful to the CNN guy. He's got almost a million followers, and Infowars half a million. Isn't that the real reason they want to ban him? He's got views they don't like and too many other people do like them. This idea that Facebook and Twitter are private businesses is just a big excuse. Like Google they are so huge they should be classed as public venues, and in that category they are suppressing free speech when they ban one guy out of bazillions who happened to have a big following and doesn't toe their party line. It's really really OK though, really really good, when people berate Trump endlessly in public venues. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

Remarkable how a lie has become truth and evil has become good and tyranny has become democracy. and so on.
