I titled the subject as I did because, for some, the subject of miracles is held very close to the heart. But I did want to offer up some historical evidence of the insincerity of some miracle workers, so called. I offer it as evidence and not merely to incite those who are religious. I hope that forum administrators will allow it under the sub-forum "Miracles and their affect on Faith".
Perhaps you have heard the story of Marjoe Gortner? For those who haven't, Gortner's story is dispassionately told in Wikipedia as follows:

To his credit Mr. Gortner "came clean" with regard to his evangelistic style in the 1970's when he joined the hippy movement. He went on to become a movie star, and has since dropped out of sight.
