Big Bang and metaphysics

I am a bit of an agnostic most of the time, but when my mind drifts tword thinking of a God it seems to make sense. At least so far as there seems to be a metaphysical aspect to the universe transcendent off, yet inclusive, of phisical reality.Does Phisical reality necisarly negate a metaphysical/spirtual world?Can it not be a manifestation of such?The one question that allways comes to mind is simply, what is the universe floating in? What was before the big bang?

No, it can't. Physicalism would deny it, but as I understand things, it cannot falsify metaphysical positions. In certain terms, that is precisely what I believe to be the case. This question is a bit misled, IMHO. Frequently the universe is identified with "all and only that which is physical". This is a physicalist position, and IMHO it is unnecessarily limiting, although in certain circumstances it can be pragmatic. The universe is better conceived as simply "all that exists," a definition that places no ontological limits on our conceptualizations. Looking at it this way, it is a contradiction to assert that something exists which is not within the universe -- or "something exists which is not included in all that exists." Well, its not certain that "before" is a valid referrant relative to the Big Bang, although the newest cosmological models (Hawking's Ekpyrotic Universe, Tegmark's Many Worlds) are speculating about what may have produced the Big Bang.Blessings,::
