The "Posts of the Month" forum index page.
These topics listed at the above page are still available for additions.
-----
Now for September 2004 (as per previous months):
quote:
Please post your votes for the September, 2004, Post of the Month here. Include author, forum name, thread name, post number, eg:
Name: Velvet Tongue
Forum: Evolution
Thread: I'm no monkey
Post #: 17
A link to the message, and perhap a SHORT comment would also be nice. But, this is NOT a place to debate the referenced topic - so be nice.
I think that a fairly liberal use of this topic would be a good thing for indexing some nice messages that are otherwise doomed to be lost in the clutter. So, if you encounter a message that seems to say something of special substance, please give it a plug/reference in this topic.
New month, same old message and routine,

thank you, thank you very muuch ...
I hit the jackpot, and it only took me 1562 posts to do it!
(whew)
It has been hard work, but I want to let all you other posters out there know that you too can earn a POTM if you stick to it and keep the goal in sight, work hard, and be sincere. This is America, and anything is possible (even defeating Bush ).

Rrhain totally destroys the common flood arguments in a single post, like Superman. Plus a totally awesome zinger at the end.

hehe...still editing, added link to post number - The Queen
Something with so little self confidence that it could become upset if I didn't believe in it is not something that could have created the Universe.
That is,to me, the most congent, well thought out statement by any believer in God I have ever come across. My hats' off to you jar.
Sorry for posting it originally in the August POTM jar.It is a good one in any month, Thanks to Adminasgara for corrections in the first draft.

Mike explains the other side
Message 50
Mike, rather eloquently, explains the view point of the other side. I'm impressed both by how well he has "got it" and how well he expresses it. He didn't pull any punchs and, rightly, points out that there are militant atheists ("dawkinists") as well.
(It doesn't hurt that he gave me an honourable mention in much respected company. )

Loudmouth has also posted quite a few messages re: Coelacanth upthread.
In all, this topic has contained very good Coelacanth discussion. I wish it all had been in a Coelacanth specific topic.

Not relevant to anything on EvC but
Percy for:
Message 1
It is well presented and amounts to an analog for the issues facing all of society as technology changes the ground rules for so many things.
I'm trying to think through just what my answer is since I've wondered about this a number of times myself.

I love this rebuttal to the "fine-tuning" argument!
quote:
Sure, tell that to all the Martians and Venusians who were never born because conditions weren't fine-tuned for life there. Tell all the plants and animals who would have happily lived ten billions of years ago on this planet, but never got the chance because conditions weren't right for life then. Tell it to all the simnies and crimbaps and other wonderful things in the universe that can't exist under the present "fine-tuned" conditions.

No one is confusing ID with young earth Creationism. But ID has always been a part of Creationism. It's the form of Creationism Behe has in mind when he describes those who think "evolution occurred, but was guided by God." This is theistic evolution.
As I type this, the topic is at message 57. Probably lots of good stuff down thread also.

It just seemed that this message needed flagging.
