The thread opening post is about an amended date for salamander emergence. Salty replies:
quote:
All real evolutionary changes (speciation or the establishment of genera, families etc.) had to be instantaneous events. I cannot even imagine a genus being established gradually. Can anyone? We are hampered by the reality that macroevolution is not occurring any more. I know this doesn't sit well with some but to me it is perfectly obvious. I simply don't understand all this nonsense about time having much to do with evolution. Look at the Cambrian explosion or better yet check out Romer's diagram showing the origin of the various mammal orders. They all were formed apparently at the same time and the only ancestral stock for any of them seems to be the insectivores, probably a single animal, at least according to Robert Broom. In any events macrevolution had nothing to do with populations. Population genetics has no significance to our understanding of the mechanisms of evolution. When no one could (understandably) observe an individual producing a new species, they dreamed up populations as the culprit. It's utter nonsense. salty
Can someone point out:
1. what this reply had to do with salamanders?
2. what this reply has to do with reality?
3. why salty can only post these simplistic, repeated mantras devoid of support or logic?
Amazing...
