Genesis, in part, runs thus:
[3] And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. [4] And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. |
To me this suggests that God recognised Light as "good" and therefore decided to separate it from Darkness so the latter couldn't mar Light's beauty.
Afterthought: However, translating bibles into English ended up with such anomalies as a hawser turning into a camel, and Arabs disintegrating into "mixed multitude", so you never know...
