Author | Topic: Dear fellow christian, judge not lest you be judged | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
mike the wiz Member Posts: 4755 From: u.k Joined: |
Recently, I made a topic in a christian forum, and their talk indeed angered me. They spoke like they themselves are in the judgement seat of Christ. So here's an excerpt of what I said to them (I was naughty as usual and almost got banished). Now I have fire in my belly for atheists who have indeed been a most kind and goodly nature at this forum evc. I was even offended GREATLY for my atheist brothers/sisters. So I think this is an important message and indeed wisdom is from babes, when B2preach said "justify damnation". Rather, justify damning your fellow servant like you are God! (Only Christ can judge) a person.
------------------------------------------------ I read this; "You are a sinner. Therefore, unless you believe on Jesus Who died in your place, you will spend eternity in Hell. " I read this in part of "God's plan of salvation". To be honest though, I think this is an unnecessary comment? It is down to Christ to judge. At other forums I am told that I preach a "your going to hell" message, and therefore, I take a lot of flack because of statements like the above. We shall ALL stand before the judgement seat of Christ, - fair enough, quote what Christ says, but do NOT make such comments about "unless you believe". We know what Christ says, but that doesn't give us the right to say to someone "your going to hell unless". Infact, in the NT there is comments about why God plans to be merciful to all. I am not saying that none-believers are going to heaven. WHAT I AM SAYING is that NO MAN WHO IS DUST can say to another man "you are going to hell unless....". We have no right to judge any person's situation. Quote the Lord, but know this - you are not God that you can judge your fellow servant. Even people's unbelief was so others could believe. Will God have mercy? Let him speak himself rather than saying others are going to hell.

As a fellow Christian I have found myself, on occasion, apologising to posters for the attitude shown to them by other "Christians" and the insults hurled at them in the name of God.
One thing I find very sad is that, in pontificating about their fellow-posters' eternal damnation, they fail to remember one of the first things about Christianity i.e. God is Love. You should love your fellow man - it doesn't say "fellow Christian". Check out the thread "What God thinks of Fundementalists" (sic). That is one scary and shameful thread. As a Roman Catholic, I've been accused of being an atheist just because I am of the opinion that evolution happened, not by fellow Catholics, but by "Christian" posters on this board. I've also been rather insulted by certain comments directed at Roman Catholics by people who show a basic misunderstanding of Catholicism. For example, someone took issue with the practice of "idolatry" within the Catholic Church, accusing Catholics of worshipping The Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM) and elevating her to the same level as God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit and asserting that Catholics pray to the BVM. Actually, we don't!!! We never have! We ask her to pray for us, to intercede on our behalf with Her Son! We also acknowledge exactly what she agreed to do when she said "I am the handmaid of the Lord". She agreed to be a mother to a baby who would suffer an appalling death and she would have to accept this! It doesn't matter who the father was, when you're a mother, you're a mother regardless. I'm a mother. I couldn't agree to my son undergoing a death of that sort! Think about it. Her sacrifice was enormous. I'm not saying that elevates her to the same status as God, but I do think that it deserves a little recognition from Christians - after all, she gave up her son for them. Thanks would be nice! I've rambled a bit here, but I wanted to set the record straight about the BVM and also to agree with Mike that some of the behaviour seen from those who profess faith in Jesus Christ show a distinct lack of understanding of what Christianity is all about. Having said that, they will need to make their peace with God, not with me, not with my Church or any other Church. They will be on their own with God, no-one to plead their case and they can explain to God why their opinion supercedes his!

As a fellow Christian I have found myself, on occasion, apologising to posters for the attitude shown to them by other "Christians" and the insults hurled at them in the name of God. To be honest with you Trixie, I almost seek to dis-associate myself with them. I am sick of the word "christian" or "christianity" - I don't think it's a word Jesus even ever used. I am foolish to call myself christian, if it doesn't define me. But then, categorizations are what humans are all about, leading to "that's mine - hands off", "I'm this - you're not", "I'm saved - you are damned". If Christ thought nothing of those "pharisees" and other "elite" groups, then why would he hold a special regard for a "christian". It's the height of arrogancy to preach hell. It is like two servants, and one says, "you haven't believed in the master, you will be done away with unless you do". That doesn't sound like humbling ones-self to me! I The gentile and the Jew and the Greek --> Christ healed them all. If we are truly "saved" because of Christ, how much more can he change his mind if we boast and judge and do all the pharisees did? That is my question. So, thanks for your rant, - I am sure you know your position, and you don't worship any idol. (By the way, I wasn't getting at you cos u said "fellow christian", I understand what you mean - yes, I guess I am just tired of the term, it seems to represent something I'm not nowadays) This message has been edited by mike the wiz, 09-06-2004 04:27 PM

Mike, you've just written something that I've thought about for a while now. I'm wondering about describing myself as a Christian if I'm going to be lumped in with with the eternal damnation crowd. I'm not saying that it affects my faith, just how I would choose to define myself. Maybe a better description would be "A Follower of the Teachings of Christ" also known as AFOTTOC, doesn't exactly roll off the tongue in full and the acronym sounds like aflotoxin, but it says it all. Problem is that people can apply such a description to themselves without being in the least bit aware that what they actually preach go AGAINST the teachings of Christ.

AFOTTOC, lol. Well, you see - we're trying to find names for ourselves again. This is our problem, but I think the "naming" itself can cause all of our troubles.
So I think for now, we don't need to name ourselves amonst the christian. It's not like Christ says we need this term. As long as we confess a belief in Christ, and profess this, aswell as following his teachings (which is an everyday unfinished task), then we might even benefit from our strange and nameless pursuit. Then again, there's the problem of "are you a christian" - if you say "no" they might think you have denied Christ. Ho hum. This message has been edited by mike the wiz, 09-06-2004 04:41 PM

quote: The quote looks to me like it is truly informative rather than judgement. Spreading the word is important, this quote is part of that. Understand for one to judge another is wrong, (the splinter in your brother's eye reference) but I disagree in you saying this is a thought of judgement. Of course this quote may seem harsh but and should be said a lot differently but informing your brother about the afterlife is necessary. Don't get me started on Catholicism, I was just confirmed in a Catholic Church...
You don't have to apologize, if the person offended by the "Christian" cannot come to the realization that one (or every but one) Christian does not represent all Christians, then I wouldn't bother talking to them. Praying, Oops I mean asking Mary to "intercede" is wrong plain and simple. Talking to dead people usually doesn't work... I've been through this with my priest, my ccd teachers, etc... The problem with Catholicism is that they instead of looking towards the Bible it look towards the Pope and "Tradition", who time and time again has been proven not worthy of the title "Infallible"... Heres a list of things made up by Catholicism: Praying to Saints, people, MaryPurgatory The Rising of Mary to heaven (with her body) Whatever there are probably more. "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you." Ephesians 5:14

Praying, Oops I mean asking Mary to "intercede" is wrong plain and simple. Why?
The problem with Catholicism is that they instead of looking towards the Bible it look towards the Pope and "Tradition", who time and time again has been proven not worthy of the title "Infallible"... The Bible is simply a very imperfect book that refelects the point of view of people that lived thousands of years ago, that added parts to protect their position and perks, their myths and tales.
