Heaven is having your 21 month old son hold your head steady so he can give you three big, loud, sloppy kisses.

Don't be silly, Stay. By your logic we could ask "How can Stay Mikwib exist if we don't know where (s)he is?"

There are acutally 3 Heavens referred to in the bible.
1) the atmosphere
2) the universe
3) the Heaven where GOD resides
The first two you can easily see, ( I would hope would be self evident enough not to be up for debate), they have three dimensions. we see two,( height and width) and percieve the third- depth.
The Third heaven,( as described in the bible) has FOUR dimensions. Height, Width, Length and Breadth.
Just as a person existing in a two dimensional world would NOT be able to easily discern how something could exsist in a 3 dimensional world. So a person in a three dimensional exsitance would have trouble discerning a four dimensional existance.
Does that mean it doesn't exsist? Or is it that we have limited ability to comprehend what is not easily seen, so we say it can't exist because we have trouble comprehending it?
55% of " scientists" believed the earth was flat, at one time.
They also took the stance that the solar system revolved around the earth- until someone came up with the means to empirically prove otherwise.
Just a thought.

What is that from, the Dept. of Made-Up Statistics? (Seriously, let's see the cite.)
The Greeks knew that the world was round, long before anybody came up with the word "scientist". So all scientists have known that the world was spherical. I notice you use quotes so I'm curious to know who you think you're talking about, because they weren't actual scientists. Also I'd like to know who did the poll, and under what conditions. After all you wouldn't be so disingenuous as to show up here and make up facts, would you?

An Alternative Look at 'Heaven'
James J writes:

Ok ...
The first two you can easily see,
Are you sure we can see the atmosphere? I can just barely see the whole universe, even on a cloudless day. (but I know what you mean. )
The Third heaven,( as described in the bible) has FOUR dimensions. Height, Width, Length and Breadth.
I believe 'Width' and 'Breadth' are the same thing. Breadth, being an archaic usage.
They also took the stance that the solar system revolved around the earth- until someone came up with the means to empirically prove otherwise.
There was mathematical "proof" as early as 300 BC, but almost no one accepted it; not even the great Aristotle. He did accept that earth is shaped like a ball, but then insisted that it had to be perfectly spherical. The idea that the sun orbits earth is what got Bruno, Kepler and Galileo into so much trouble, about four hundred years ago. People are not very willing to give up established beliefs, no matter how incredibly unscientific they may be.
About Heaven:
An alternative opinion, if I may ...
There is the firmament: which God calls 'Heaven.' [Heb. shamayim] Genesis 1:8
There is the air, or Atmosphere if you like: where birds fly. [Heb. shamayim] Gen. 1:26
And there are a variety of "heavens" (heaved up things), [Heb. shamayim] i.e. sun, moon and "stars." Gen. 1:17 (planets also were called 'stars.')
The dwelling of God is apparently on, or, in the firmament [Heb. raqia] i.e. the dome, or vault, of heaven. He walks on this dome:
quote:
"He is way up there, walking on the vault of heaven." Job 22:14 Living Bible
He builds his palace there:
quote:
"you build your palace on the waters above; using the clouds as your chariot. ... From your palace you water the uplands until the ground has had all that your heavens have to offer;" Psalm 104:3,13 Jerusalem Bible
These waters are the:
quote:
... waters that be above the heavens!" Psalm 148:4 King James Version
I am wondering what you think of this passage found in 2 Chronicles 2:6. How do you suppose it can be in agreement with the psalms quoted above?
quote:
"And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods. But who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him?"
BTW: The Hebrew concept of universe did not, apparently, extend beyond the firmament; but was limited to:
quote:
"heaven [firmament] and earth [dry land], the sea, and all that in them is," Exodus 20:11 KJV
