I would recommend Terry Pratchet's Disk World fantasies to anyone interested in religion and philosophy. He has a refreshing and hilarious way of standing common ideas on their heads. His books have sometimes helped to clarify my thinking.
Two of my favourites are "Small Gods" and "Pyramids".
Has anyone else read any of these books? How did you like them?

Anyone who can parody and make fun of so many other authors and friends is always interesting. But to really enjoy his work you really have to have read just about every other SciFi book and story ever written.

The Science of Diskworld I,II, and III
I have read a few of Pratchett's books and I liked them very much. Strangely I have never had the urge to read them all. Maybe it's because there are so many other books in my "library", as I like to call it, that I still have to read.
But with regard to the theme of this board, there are three books which Pratchett co-authored, and that anyone who wants to say anything meaningful here must read. They are "The Science of Diskworld", "The Science of Diskworld II: The Globe", and "The Science of Diskworld III: Darwin's Watch".
These books are co-written by Ian Stewart, Jack Cohen and Terry Pratchett. The first two are a mathematician and a biologist respectively. The books are an amalgam of a Diskworld novel and a popular science book. Highly recommended.

"Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge: it is those who know little, not those who know much, who so positively assert that this or that problem will never be solved by science." - Charles Darwin.
Did you know that most of the time your computer is doing nothing? What if you could make it do something really useful? Like helping scientists understand diseases? Your computer could even be instrumental in finding a cure for HIV/AIDS. Wouldn't that be something? If you agree, then join World Community Grid now and download a simple, free tool that lets you and your computer do your share in helping humanity. After all, you are part of it, so why not take part in it?

A II and a III?
Wow, I have read the first Science of Discworld, and thought it was great. I had no idea there was a II and a III. I read the first by total accident when I stumbled upon it in a small shop in Northern Ireland. And I stupidly let someone borrow it and have never seen it since or been able to find it in print anywhere.
I will definitely have to look up the second and the third books, thanks for bringing them to my attention.
I long for each new Discworld novel, great stuff.

I mean, this is America. Everybody loves seeing lesbians go at it, as long as they are both hot and not in a monogamous, legally sanctioned relationship.
