To those loyal fans who watched the season finale, I would like to start a topic to discuss disappointments, surprises, and expectations for next season of LOST.

One thing that personally had me disappointed was Charlie's situation. I mean, Desmond had found the SCUBA gear. We all saw how long it took for his small chamber to fill, it would've taken a good five minutes to fill the whole station. They could've been in suits floating to the surface!!! What the hell? It really pissed me off!
Now there's the deal with Jack and his 'flash-aheads.' I did not see that one coming. There was one point especially, where he said 'Get my dad down here and we will see who's drunker.' I was positive that this meant his father was alive at that time. How could he be alive after they got off the island if he was dead before they got there? Then there's the other possibility. That he knew Kate before the crash, and that he was having flashbacks, and that he was referring to a different incident when he said 'we weren't supposed to leave.' Of course... I think the only person who could sensibly have been in that casket was Ben, which would mean it would be after they get home. This leads to the next part
What can be made of Ben and John's worry over the signal? Who really is coming to 'rescue' them? Now, if my other assumption is correct, then we must assume they get off the island, but who? Do they all get off? When will they get off? Or, will the boat that comes to save them get stuck in the same funky 'other worldliness' that the island seems to have”brings boats back to shore no matter how far they sail out, takes planes and choppers down, etc.”?
Are we just seeing the beginning of a whole new chapter, or will next season just be a wrap-up of them all going home, and how their lives changed?
Anyway... tell us all what your thoughts are after watching it

The only episode of Lost I ever saw was a season finale where they had put together a boat, encountered some bad men, the black kid got kidnapped, and somebody got shot and fell into the water...
Did they ever recover the kid? Oh, don't worry about giving anything away to me. I don't care much for it. Just curious about that one thing.

I guess, after they made it clear that we were watching a "flash-forward", I assumed it was probably Sawyer who had died. I don't think Ben would ever leave the island.
Who really is coming to 'rescue' them?
Probably Alvar Hanso and the rest of the Dharma Initiative.

They gave him back after they manipulated his dad into killing some people and freeing a prisoner, and then gave them both a boat and sent them on their way. That was the end of the second season.
But the kid seems to be back - at least in vision form.

You mean the kid is back as a form of hallucination by someone?

The easy answer is that Jack was drunk/high and confused about the livelyness of his pops.

I'm not convinced that the apparitions are strictly hallucinations, but basically, yeah.

See, I just found a reason why I shouldn't watch Lost the series. I hate open endings. Either kill off the kid, put him into a lifetime of slavery, or give him back to his parent.

Either kill off the kid, put him into a lifetime of slavery, or give him back to his parent.
Well, they did. The kid's off the island. He's basically out of the series.
What's appearing to various islanders is almost certainly not the kid (Walt, BTW) but some force on the island appearing in his guise.
I hate open endings.
Theoretically it's not all that open; by the end of 5-6 seasons of Lost all plot points are supposed to be addressed. That's a long time to wait, though, I guess.

But Kate said, "I have to get back to him..." or something to that effect. I thought that would mean Sawyer, since I can't think of her being with anyone else.
Ben might have left the island if he was forced to. He and John did say that the island would be ruined.

One thing that personally had me disappointed was Charlie's situation. I mean, Desmond had found the SCUBA gear. We all saw how long it took for his small chamber to fill, it would've taken a good five minutes to fill the whole station.
I don't think Charlie is prescient though - he didn't know how quickly the water was going to fill that room up, and he probably knew that putting scuba gear on in the middle of a flood was tricky work. He also knew he was going to die - and he didn't want Desmond to join him. I also think the slow fill rate was dramatic licence because Charlie is a major character and if they had slammed him against a bulk head and crushed him with the sudden in rush of water it would have sucked.
abe: Also, remember the last thing that happened just before? Desmond saw Penny on the monitor? He would have probably died just to speak to her, and Charlie knew that he had to get the message 'not penny's boat' to the other losties - both of them dying would not have helped. In effect, he saved Desmond from himself by sacrificing his own life.
abe(2): The one thing that struck me was that the water should not have filled above the level of the window. I'm cool with TV physics though, one can suspend disbelief in these cases, though I wish it wasn't necessary at times.
There was one point especially, where he said 'Get my dad down here and we will see who's drunker.' I was positive that this meant his father was alive at that time. How could he be alive after they got off the island if he was dead before they got there?
Remember how Desmond got off the island, and it was all freaky deaky? I reckon it is a flash-forward, and that Jack's dad is alive. My theory is that everyone on the island was fated to die (ala Charlie, the guy with the red shoes etc etc), but the island shields them from this fate. Through some voodoo of some kind, Christian (who was supposed to die) is still alive. Everyone else is dying off (Jack almost died, mystery person X died (I thought it was Juliet)). Hence Jack's realization that they have to get back.
? Or, will the boat that comes to save them get stuck in the same funky 'other worldliness' that the island seems to have”brings boats back to shore no matter how far they sail out, takes planes and choppers down, etc.”?
Desmond saw a flash of Claire being rescued by a helicopter, so I guess it was successful.
Are we just seeing the beginning of a whole new chapter, or will next season just be a wrap-up of them all going home, and how their lives changed?
Damon L and Carlton Cuse mentioned that in Season 4 the characters are still lost...metaphorically. I think Jack's pharm drug addiction is a foreshadowing of this theme.

Charlie drowning

In effect, he saved Desmond from himself by sacrificing his own life.
He could have at least tried to run out of the room and then close the door behind him.
And if that was impossible, then he could have at least tried to swim out the now busted porthole or something. He could have made it to the surface easy.
Only logical thing, is he knew he had to die (from Desmond's vision) if Claire was going to be saved.
