2 Russian scientists are betting that global temps will cool in the next decade and are putting up 10K as a bet if some British scientists will take it.
As a former Russian student, I've always found that their scientists differ in a lot of ways from us, and yet the West rarely gives any credence to the Russians. In some respects that is warranted, but in some areas the Russians are quite advanced.
any comments on this theory for global warming?

Re: good question
Even if coffee house is open posting, it is still nice to be asked.

I see from your link that the wager was immediately covered by a British scientist.
Did you read that far, or did you think your OP was stronger if it sounded like the bet was going a'beggin'?
Just curious. I'd take a piece of that action, too, if the Russians had better currency.

I read that far, but.....
Had typed the post before and while reading it, and figured it was not that critical to go back and correct it.
Glad you read the link and noticed it.
What do you think of the idea?
I had wondered myself if sun activity could cause warming, but not being that familiar with the science here, I can't tell if it's valid or not.
I also have noticed that the Russians look at a great many things we dismiss, at least in public, as pure rubbish. For example, they and we have been working on using electro-magnetic means of altering weather since the at least as far back as the 60s and have this stuff officially covered, supposedly banned, in treaties, and the Russians are now offering their services in this arena, to a degree, in the private sector, while Americans tend to scoff at it, despite it being viable enough to be covered in treaties.

Re: I read that far, but.....

There is good evidence that sunspot activity is related to temperature. Do a web search for "Maunder Minimum".
But there is also strong evidence that the carbon dioxide we are pouring into the atmosphere is having serious effects. I expect the Russians to lose this bet.

Re: I read that far, but.....
Thanks. That's interesting stuff. It may just be me, but it seems from media reports that sun activity was on the rise in the 90s and early 2000s.

There is an eleven year (approx.) cycle.

Some scientists are looking at this as an explanation of climate change and in my opinion looking stuipid because the coalitions don't seem to be there at all.
But hey arn't conclusively there for co2 neither

What about coconuts?
