Why would a Satan do what he did?
Some basic assumptions that this question makes are as follows:
God exists.
Satan exists.
The information we get on Satan comes from the Bible.
The Bible says the following of Satan:
Satan is a being with a personality and motivations.
Satan is the chief "adversary" of God.
(For Biblical references of the above see

Whether or not we accept these things (or the Bible)as absolutely true or not, we can still debate Satan's motivations. In other words this forum isn't for posts like: "well he doesn't exist so all of this is moot". Whether or not he, or God, exists (and I am not taking a position on this) the character of Satan is still interesting and can be debated just like we could debate Jean Valjean in Les Misérables (
Les Misrables - Wikipedia).
So with those ground rules I would like to discuss why a very powerful and intelligent creature would do something that doesn't seem to make any sense:
1)Satan rebelled against an all-powerful all-knowing God that could easily destroy him.
2)Satan's reason for this seemed to be so that he could be worshipped by humans (or at least keep humans from worshipping God), even though that would in no way invalidate point (1).
3)Satan poors all of his energy into tricking/tormenting humans into rebelling against God even though this in now way benefits him.
4)No creature that is not insane acts against its own self interest. Murderers murder either because it benefits them somehow or because they are psychopathic. If Satan was a perfect angel, and rebelling against God didn't benefit him at all, does that mean he was a psychopathic angel (as created)?
5)Satan converted a lot of angels to his side. How? What could he offer them that was better than what they had? Do they worship him like a God? Do they all have suicidal tendencies or do they somehow think that God would not destroy them?
I eagerly await your thoughts...
