Today is Thanksgiving in the US, it is an election year and the candidates are traveling and speaking and arguing and debating.
It was much the same back in 1963. I was only recently out in the world, working as an Optician, when someone burst into the shop saying "They shot him! They shot Kennedy!"
Way back then, we as a Nation were struggling with many of the very same issues as today, a questionable War, Civil Rights, whether black faces should be in white churches or even white schools, whether people have a right to health care, protection, education.
I would have thought that in nearly 50 years we would have made more progress. I think John Kennedy thought that too.

Ah yes, good point. He might have done better in Washington State.
AbE:
The point of the thread, beyond simply a note and remembrance, is that many of the issues that were current then are still current today. The US is still involved in a pretty much pointless foreign war, we still deny equal rights to a significant portion of our population, health care is increasingly limited to the wealthy, education is still haunted by the advocates of ignorance and we are seeing the same drive from the Biblical Christians that drove white-flight and those earlier avoidance schools.

Yeah, I always thought Ted Bundy and Karla Faye Tucker would have made a nice couple.

Our 5th
It was on the 5th anniversary of wifie and me, today being our 49th. Though I voted against him the event significantly dampened our celebration the day he was shot.
