Currently I am translating Fritjof Capra's new book 'Hidden Connections'. In passing, I noticed little flaws in some of his arguments, as in personizing Gaia (of Lovelock's Gaia theory), putting too much emphasis over symbiogenesis, and dismissing evolutionary genetics and behavioural game-theory. On the other hand, Capra introduces me to new fields rarely heard, such as Humberto Maturana & Francisco Varela's 'Santiago Theory of Cognition'. I tried to look for more info about the facts underlying this theory, but most web pages only direct me to people praising the theory. I have yet to find a convincing observation of this.
Anybody know anything about the Santiago Theory of Cognition, and is it a good theory supported by facts? Also I would like to hear your opinions about Fritjof Capra's views--FYI his works are popular among anti-capitalist and environmentalist NGO activists here.
