Topic: Love the dictionary plug-ins for Firefox.

The newest Firefox has some really useful plug-ins like a dictionary. Highlight a word and right click and one of the options is "define the highlighted word". Really helps those who are old and slow in addition to being as poor a spaller such as me. For those of you with the new Firefox, add the plug-in extension and then right click on spellar.

Two I've tried so far are called Define Word and Dict.

I like to use GuruNet. Alt-click on a word and you get dictionary, thesaurus, translations, and (if you pay) more. Works with any program that displays text.

I just type define:x into the Google toolbar, where x is the word I want to define. It gives me a bunch of definitions from several online dictionaries.

I am a bit scared that this one would have some kind of spyware which is rampant with toolbars, etc. I don't see any privacy policy and my firewall flagged me on clicking on their links, which is a very rare event.

I am a bit scared that this one would have some kind of spyware which is rampant with toolbars, etc. Well, I've been using it for years with no hint of intrusive spyware. Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Spy Sweeper all pass right over it without question. Norton firewall asks about it whenever I fire it up for the first time on a machine, otherwise not a peep. There is a privacy policy, a little difficult to locate, at http://www.gurunet.com/privacy.jsp. Also see Does GuruNet contain Spyware? | www.infopackets.com.

Ah, they really should link to their privacy policy on the homepage. That is a big concern these days and they are going to loose customers unless that information is obvious.

As the person at EvC Forum responsible for browser compatibility, I'm curious how popular this browser is becoming. I normally only test behavior in IE and NS. --Percy
