The odds of winning are an astronomical 147 million to one. That didnt stop hundreds of customers at retail stores throughout America from buying a dream and talking to each other about what they would do if they won!~
Yes, I bought ten tickets myself. Im a gambling addict and a fool who prefers fantasy over reality. A question for evc readers....what would you do with $540 million dollars? I would likely open a 501C3 organization to help youth and build them a fancy basketball court in the inner city. Also I would travel a lot and hire a personal chef and assistant. (also a financial planner, but its unlikely I would spend or lose all of it! )

The odds of winning are an astronomical 147 million to one. The odd thing is, if this calculation is true, then you could gurantee a winner by buying 147 million different tickets (assuming there were no duplicates of all numbers). This would cost you $147 million, but you would win $500 million. I'd like someone to actually do this, but unfortunately, the bank laughed at me when I asked for the loan to do this.
A question for evc readers....what would you do with $540 million dollars? To be honest, I'd like to think I'd not do much different. I wouldn't buy a huge house, though I would fix up the one I have to become exactly what I want (a fence, new landscaping and a 4 seasons room). I'd probably buy a new car for my wife, and my immediate family members who need one. I'd set up college funds for my children, my nieces and nephews, and probably a few scholarship programs for unrelated kids. Ultimately, I'd probably invest most of it so my wife and I could live comfortably without worry about money. Money may be considered the root of all evil, but to me, it is definitely the root of all worry. Oh, and the lot behind my neighborhood that is attempting to be rezoned multi-family so they can put in unnecessary low-income apartments? I'd probably buy it and turn it into a park.

I would refuse to accept it.

I would refuse to accept it. Then why would you buy the ticket? If you wouldn't buy the ticket, then you couldn't win and the question is moot.

I don't buy the tickets but the question was "A question for evc readers....what would you do with $540 million dollars?" and my answer is I would refuse to accept $540 million dollars in the first place regardless of the source.

A question for evc readers....what would you do with $540 million dollars? 10 million dollars to everyone who Cheers this message before the drawing!
The odds of winning are an astronomical 147 million to one. Still better than the odds of winning without buying a ticket...

First I'd pay my Internet bill so I could bug you guys more often. Then I'd be bilked out of a lot of it by anybody with a good sob story. (Go ahead, start rehearsng.) Anything that was left, I'd put in a savings account at 0.0000001% interest. Then I'd die without leaving a will.

what would you do with $540 million dollars? Assuming after taxes I get to keep more like $300 million... I'd invest a good amount of it to ensure that I and my fiance can live comfortably and travel and so forth without worrying about money. I'd buy a reasonable condo or house. No mansions. Nice, with enough room for us and some guests, but not our own private hotel. I might open up a business selling custom-made gamer PCs or one of my other hobbies just for something fun to do. For the rest, I'd like to think I'd do some heavy charity work. Not-rich-me imagines rich-me as a wealthy philanthropist using my significantly greater means to right some of the wrongs that disturb me so greatly today. In reality I fear I might disappoint myself - when I get a financial windfall, I tend to be rather irresponsible with it. The urge to spend for immediate gratification for myself in the moment is often sufficient to overcome my well-reasoned desire to use the same amount for a better purpose in the future. My usual defense against this tendency is to simply not go shopping and not even pay attention to the sorts of things I like to buy. This may not work with hundreds of millions of dollars burning a hole in my pockets. But I wonder what $20 million donated to HIV/AIDS research could do for the world. Or a major political contribution (through a SuperPAC, natch') to a third-party political candidate who better represents me than the two mainstream parties. I wonder how much it would cost to set up a true non-profit health insurance company, and how effectively such an organization could focus on health and quality of life instead of budgets and denying care. A nice donation to the (tentatively named) Center for Modern Rationality (a real startup nonprofit intending to focus on new teaching methods to improve critical thinking and rationality) would be on the list as well. I'd like to think I'd do at least something good with that much cash. The human understanding when it has once adopted an opinion (either as being the received opinion or as being agreeable to itself) draws all things else to support and agree with it. - Francis Bacon "There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers

Pay off debts.
Buy a house, some cars, and good things to fill both with. Get some new clothes and some nice pens. Let the rest earn interest and give away large portions of it from time to time. Perhaps use it for opening a place to give food away. JonLove your enemies! |

I would wave wads of $100 bills in poor peoples faces while lighting a cigar with one of them, all while laughing maniacally and mocking their poor fortune. Why? Because....fuck poor people, scum that they are. Then I'd tell them to "get a job, ya bum!" while blowing my nose in yet another $100 bill. I may (may) toss them a fiver or a few singles if I am feeling generous, but again, fuck poor people, scum that they are. Next, I would offer a homeless man a million bucks to dance a jig in Times Square while singing a Lady Gaga song, only to reneg on my offer, because fuck poor people, scum that they are. I would find a family who was about to be evicted and tell them that I'll pay their mortgage, only to call the bank and buy their house then have it demolished with all their shit inside while I smoke a cigar wrapped in $100 bills and laugh in their poor faces because fuck poor people, scum that they are.

You too are an odd one. You kinda remind me of the sarcasm of Artemis Entreri.
I would help many poor folks, but it would be in my timing and method and not based on their pleas and requests. I likely would help people in such a way that they would never know who helped them. And I would never give to any church except maybe my friends Hip Hop church.
