I'm in Southern Ontario.
Basically, your only cell phone options are Bell Canada, Rogers or someone-who-relies-on-Bell-or-Rogers-anyway.
October
Had a phone with Rogers. Wasn't awesome (what phone company is?) Came to the end of my contract, switched to Bell.
Also, purchased the wife a phone from Bell at the same time.
Wife got an iPhone, I got a Sony.
1 week later I got off vacation and realized my phone doesn't work in the plant I work at. No service. Apparently it's a "Rogers Building."
Went to return the phones and go back to Rogers.
September
They accepted my wife's iPhone and gave us a receipt.
They did not accept my Sony (said I talked on it for longer than 30 minutes so it was no longer eligible for return).
I argued with them.
I went home.
I phoned them and talked some more.
October
I phoned them and talked some more.
I phoned them and talked some more.
November
I phoned them and talked some more.
Eventually I learned that my phone wasn't actually over the 30 minutes, but it was "close" and they made a mistake.
So they accepted the return of my Sony as well.
2 months had gone by at this point and we had obviously cancelled and switched back to Rogers.
When you cancel and do not return the phone, you get charged $800 until you return the phone.
My account was billed $1600, even though the iPhone was already returned.
"Oh, yes, we see that... everything will get adjusted when you return the Sony phone, though."
Sure it will, Bell.
I phoned them and talked some more.
December
I phoned them and talked some more.
I phoned them and talked some more.
They finally sent me a "waybill" and I packaged up the Sony and sent it back to them.
The next day they adjusted my bill... down to $800.
I phoned them and talked some more.
Trying to get them to understand that the charge was for a phone that was already returned 3 months ago was... difficult.

January

February
I phoned them and talked some more.
I phoned them and talked some more.
March
I phoned them and talked some more.
Finally... someone admitted to me that they really didn't have a department that could deal with my issue. Everyone I had ever talked to actually believed me and fully intended to get my account cleared away. What was going on was someone would set it up to be "taken care of" but no department would ever actually take care of it...
Another round of going up 2 managers and I was waiting for the 3rd one.
Didn't even need to talk to him.
"Sir, this is just a mess on our end over here. We can't make any sense of it so we just reduced your account down to a balance of 0.00."
...
Fuckers.
At least it's all over now.
I even have the discharge paper that says Bell acknowledges that my account is now at $0.00.
Just one more time, this time with feeling: you Fuckers.
Okay, I feel a bit better now.
