1 - What are the facts of "the crucifixion." Can you tell me if there is any evidence (documents etc...) dating to the date of "jesus's crucifixion" and not hundreds of years after?
2 - When was the bible written?
3 - When was christianity created?
4 - What was the first "popular" religion?
5 - What were the beliefs of early judaism?
6 - How can "believers" refute the evidence of the existence of Homo habilis, Homo sapiens, Cro-Magnons and so on? (Please include the idea of Adam and Eve if you can)

Hi Boston,
Welcome to the forum.

(is)there any evidence (documents etc...) dating to the date of "jesus's crucifixion". . .
No.
quote:
#2
When was the bible written?
Which bible? The earliest parts of the Hebrew bible (or TaNaKh)were likely written no earlier than the mid-8th or 7th century B.C. Many parts are post-exilic with additions and subsequent editing extending up to the 2nd century B.C.
The NT epistles (mostly Pauline) were likely penned in the 40's or 50's A.D. The gospels, beginning with Mark, were likely penned from the late 60's - mid 70's, Matthew and Luke likely 80's, and John perhaps late 90's or early 2nd century.

When was christianity created?
Christianity as basically interpreted today is primarily based on the writings of Paul. However, Pauline Christianity as the dominant "orthodox" religion was probably not achieved until the late 2nd century A.D.
quote:
#4
What was the first "popular" religion?
Polytheistic nature religion.
quote:
#5
What were the beliefs of early judaism?
That depends on when you first want to define it as "Judaism". Monotheistic Yahwism as the dominant paradigm may have emerged as late as the 7th century B.C.

How can "believers" refute the evidence of the existence of Homo habilis, Homo sapiens, Cro-Magnons and so on?
They can't. At least not credibly.

(Please include the idea of Adam and Eve if you can)
Who were Adam and Eve?

Pedantic Chiroptera

Polytheistic nature religion.
Just a quibble, but probably more like animistic nature religion.

Thread moved here from the Dates and Dating forum.
Not really a "Dates and Dating" forum type of topic (an honest mistake though).
I've added the "(Re: Dates and Dating of Christian Events)" part to the topic title.

Yes. That would better describe it. Thanks Chiroptera.

Comments:
Amlodhi thanks for the answers, I would like to know more about the questions I brought up. Do you know of any readings which are based specifically around any of the questions asked.

Comments on Post:
Question 1. Really, so how can we be so sure that there was really a crucifixion of the so called "son of god?" or even a man named Jesus. When did the stories of this crucifixion start?

Question 2. I was referring to the Christian Bible, with this post I was trying to understand how christianity and stories of jesus came about. Although Iam interested in how early hebrew came about to. I wish to understand why we created religion aswell.

Question 5. The reason I ask "what is the first" and "are there any documents" is because I want to understand where these religions branched from and how there beliefs were created.

Questions 7. Adam and Eve the supposed first humans and the origin of the first "original sin."

I don't know much about religion, I'm new to these questions I have been a long time Atheist and I was never really interested in these topics. Im a senior in highschool now and my "need" for knowledge has increased and this is a topic that has now caught my attention.

Hello again, Boston,
quote:
Do you know of any readings which are based specifically around any of the questions asked.
Since you seem to be most interested in the NT period you might check out "Who Wrote the New Testament", by Burton Mack (cheap in paperback), or for a more balanced and far-ranging treatise, there is "A History of the Christian Church", Williston Walker, etal.
quote:
. . . so how can we be so sure that there was really a crucifixion. . .
We can't. There are many brilliant people who think that the person of Jesus was only myth. Others belong to what is called the "historical Jesus" camp. We (i.e. myself included) think that there is reasonable evidence that the person of Jesus existed, although not the later mythology that accumulated concerning him.
quote:
I wish to understand why we created religion as well.
That should keep you busy for awhile. At least you are fortunate enough to be maturing in an age of prolific and easily accessible information.
quote:
I want to understand where these religions branched from and how their beliefs were created.
Hang around here for awhile and you will go a long way towards achieving that goal. There are some extraordinarily informed people who post on this board (I come here to learn from them).
quote:
Adam and Eve the supposed first humans and the origin of the first "original sin."
That was my point: "the supposed".
quote:
I'm a senior in highschool now . . .
Must be nice. I was in high school once, but that was back during the dark ages.
quote:
my "need" for knowledge has increased and this is a topic that has now caught my attention.
Again, you can learn alot quickly on this board. However, in asking questions you should be sure to narrow the scope; most people will not have the time to type a dissertation that will answer all your questions in one fell swoop.
Here's hoping you join us for awhile,
Amlodhi
