First things first, I have confidence in the process of Evolution, so you can say that I am quite firmly in the 'E' part of the EvC.
Second I applaud the level of discussion here, even the 'C' guys try make a good fist of the little forsce they have. I am still reading your threads but with only a couple of hours the impressions are only good. I am afraid that with me you have to some extent another Buzsaw, to whom I tip my hat in acknowledgement of a like mind. Good day sir! I am vehemently anti-Islam and all it stands for I find the ignorance appalling and the followers pitiable. I am very argumentative and rude, so sadly likely to lower the tone on occasion and I apologise for that in advance. My background, Have doctorates in both Maths and Physics [Quantum] but try to avoid there use as simply it just confuses everyone and that just infuriates the unknowing and as it took me years to get where I am today, you can forget about me trying to teach or educate anyone about my chosen work. I am 38yo, White, English, brought up in a Home where both my parents told me that the Bible was originally a book written by good men with good intentions, It was a good story about good intentions that was corrupted by the greedy and manipulative... which I believe to be for the most part true. I am trying to gain a better knowledge of the present thinking on 'E' so my posts will not at first be very frequent. Regards to you all Both 'E' and 'C' alike. V.

Thank-you for the welcome.
The more I read the more I like... Who's the 'big cheese' in the 'C' camp? I need to see what he/she is made of... I like to test people. Regards V.

I would probably say: TrueCreation, mike the wiz, syamysu, and buzsaw.
I'm YEC, but wouldn't say I compare at all to these C's.TC may have changed camps, but I am not sure. The earth is flat.

Danesha, yep, agreed.
I like Curry not Stew, so I'll get straight to the point, I cannot tell how disappointed I am that Buzsaw is a 'C', what is the poor soul thinking, is he beyond redemption? I was hoping to find an ally on all fronts, but I will have a problem coping with an Anti-Ilamicist that is a 'C'... all the time in my mind will be the thought that he is just bitter and envious of the blind ignorant devotion of the followers of that faith, still I suppose he can console himself with the thought that at least the Xians are [marginally] less sheep-like than the others... still sheep tho... So, slightly 'crestfallen' at the sudden loss of an ally that won't stab me in back, I'll return to my reading... >sigh<

I don't get it.
You don't think it's possible to be a moderate Muslim? A liberal Muslim? You don't think the reason that fundamentalist Muslims are so impenetrable to reason might perhaps be that they have such shitty schools? If you can follow Jesus without being a zombie, what makes you think that you can't pray to Allah without being a terrorist? [This message has been edited by crashfrog, 03-21-2004]

I was in the Peace Corps and spent three years in Tanzania. I would say that roughly half the people I met were Christian, the other half Muslim. Everyone got along together well with each other, and everyone got along well with me. I didn't see much difference in attitude between the two on much. I can say that I enjoyed the company of everyone.
I knew one Muslim (actually of Indian descent, rather than African) who told me that it is un-Islamic to force one's beliefs on others. Be careful: the few extremists who happen to get themselves in the news are not necessarily typical of the whole religion. This also goes for Christians, as well as Muslims.

Ooh! Sorry! That wasn't directed at you, Crashfrog, but at V-bird.
V-bird, welcome to EvC forum. To repeat Crashfrog's point, let me remind you that the winner of last year's Nobel Peace Prize is Shirim Ebadi:
Both in her research and as an activist, she is known for promoting peaceful, democratic solutions to serious problems in society.... Ebadi represents Reformed Islam, and argues for a new interpretation of Islamic law which is in harmony with vital human rights such as democracy, equality before the law, religious freedom and freedom of speech. As for religious freedom, it should be noted that Ebadi also includes the rights of members of the bahai community, which has had problems in Iran ever since its foundation. Just like Christianity, Judaism, and other faiths, Islam includes a great many different viewpoints, some unpleasantly totalitarian, some violent, but others peaceful, reformist, and respectful of the rights of others. Hi, V-Bird! Welcome!
I just wanted to let you know about the little reply button that appears with some other links at the bottom of each message. If you want to reply to a specific message, use the little reply button directly beneath that message. This will create links in both directions between your reply and the original message. When you want to address a reply generally and to no one in particular, then use one of the big REPLY buttons that appear at the top and bottom of message pages. --Percy

Hi there, V-Bird,
Welcome to the board. I happen to be one who practise Islam that you say you were against. Just to let you know, I'll be glad to discuss or even cross swords with you. I hope that dialogue can wipe off that hatred of yours. Peace to you.

They are merely 'sleepers'. I don't understand. Are you saying that every Muslim is a terrorist waiting to happen? What evidence would you accept that would disprove that? What evidence could be presented to you that a given Muslim is not now, nor ever will be a terrorist?
