If you support using the constitution for some people's own bigoted view, go ahead and vote yes for a constitutional amendment. If you don't think it should be a legal thing at all, vote no.

I saw the President and Laura Bush with Charlie Gibson this morning.
From what I understood, he said he does not wish to take rights away from gay people, but only wants to amend the Constitution to say a "marriage" is between a man and a woman. It sounded like he didn't want to ban civil unions or legal unions.
WTF??
Then why do we need a Constitutional Amendment? It makes no sense.

He also supports full civil rights for black people, as long as they stay at the back of the bus and drink from separate water fountains.

Yeah, I think it's his way of backing off. He knows most of the country is against a Constitutional ban. If he gets elected, I'm willing to bet he'll change his tune.
But he has pissed off some people:
