Well, this is my first post. I'm 20 years old and very idealistic as you can guess. I consider myself on neither the creationists side or the evolutionists side. Look people, if am a C or a E does that change algebra? If I spend endless hours arguing with a C or E does that make a mission to Mars happen? If I engage in lengthly dicussions about "ID" did that put a man on the Moon? In my mind its not important to waste time on such trivial issues such as how old is the Earth. Rather, we should be Proponents of advancing technologically and scientifically which will able us to begin to answer the questions that are on everyone's mind.
Furthermore, energies are better expended for the cause of a common goal (a mission to Mars) not just useless and never ending psychobabble. Now, you creationists don't think I'm just some young whippersnapper that hasn't seen your side of the issue. I have meet and talked with John Morris of ICR serveral times and been to IRC headquarters more then once. I have also heard Henry Morris speak in public. As for the evolutionists I am a member of the Mars Soceity, subscribe to Sky & Telescope magazine and own a Meade 8" SCT with go-to capabilities. I also enjoy reading science related books and watching old sci-fi films. e.g. "Things to Come"
So why am I telling you this? Because i think that it dosen't really matter what someones thinks about how we got here, its the progressing and understanding that means something. Just think. what if the library of Alexandria hadn't been burned to the ground? Not, what if so and so creationist hadn't said that.
Anyways, I look forward to your replies.

I think you can't really understand something if you don't know its entire cycle. I mean, you need to know how things originated if you want to understand them. So for me to know how everything got here is very important. Scientifically and Philosophically.

I agree with Andor, and I also with to clarify why many of us on the science side are here.
There is a very real threat from radical fundamentalist Christians in this country to get their religion taught in public schools along side of, or instead of, the Theory of Evolution, the Big Bang, etc. These issues have gone to court several times, and you might remember the latest debacle in Kansas when the school board there stopped requiring science teachers to teach the ToE.
I don't particularly care what kinds of religious views people hold as long as they do not impinge upon the rights of others. Since this vocal, powerful minority does with to impinge upon our rights to be free from state-sponsored religion, I have something to say about it.
I also have strong feelings about the misrepresentation and distortion of science that these religious groups perpetrate.

You can't go to Mars because of the glass plates that hold the Moon in place. That is even if you could find it considering you would be basing your celestial navigation on the heliocentric model, which, of course, we know is a fraud, much like evolution. Finally there is no need to go to Mars, it is nothing but a light in the sky meant to glorify Earth and the only people who want to go there are evolution evangelists. Earth is God's masterpiece, the only inhabitable world, made specially through a seven-day (168 hour) divine fiat for God's only children. Also, we know that there are no extrasolar planets.
Of course NASA is sinful and foolish. Haven't you ever heard of the Tower of Babel? We know what happened to them that tried to build it! That anyone would dare bring this upon a country as Godly as the United States (founded by Christians to preserve Christianity and to be able to teach Protestant Non-Episcopalian Christian Fundamentalism in the schools as much as they wanted and prosecute whoever objects) is shameful. But of course, this whole space exploration / astronut-launching system is really a sham to promote evolution. We all know that the world is flat.
By the way, that's satire.

Teachers have to decide which material they focus on in class and what gets emphasis. To ensure that students are taught effectively they are tested at the conclusion of each year. Teachers, therefore, have a tendency to teach what will be on the standardized tests. There is no reason to teach what is not on the test; they can skip it completely and it will make no difference.
Instead of dealing with a controversial issue, Kansan teachers would be encouraged to sweep evolution right under the carpet and (more) thousands of students would progress to university-level courses without any prior exposure to the theory.

By the way, evolution was not the only thing removed from the test standards in that action. Several references to environmental concerns were also deleted, including global warming and resource depletion. Also hacked out were the age of the Earth and the Big Bang. This goes beyond Creationism v. Evolution, the action was nothing less than censorship of any science that offends the far-right, in this case the Creation Science Association of Mid-America, the primary author of the offending standards.
