I was at a Christain youth group at my school today ( Yes, I'm a wolf in sheep's fur) and I was talking to the main guy about how he arrived to the conclusion that the Bible is the word of God, and that it's specifically the Christian God that he claims created all. After he gave his reasons, I presented alternative explanations.
He said eye-witness accounts in the bible affirmed his believe that Jesus came back from the dead.
His observation of people's life changing dramatically when they "discovered God"
That the Bible was written "so well"
Life is complex
Those 4 things he said "is why I believe so strongly" - I then gave him other possible explanations. I said that if eye-witness accounts are enough to affirm a believe, he can't possibly deny Aliens. Hundreds of "eye-witness" accounts have been made of people who claim to see Aliens. I then said the effect of "discovering God" could be explained in the placebo effect (mind over matter). I simply told him his third reason was fine, but isn't very strong (I was polite). I than explained how complexity in life gives the illusion of Design. Explaining natural selection as an artist, constantly perfecting his "work"
He than claimed that evolution is "proven wrong" - He claimed that all the fossil evidence of Lucy, Neanderthals and other transitional forms regarding human evolution were "hoaxes" and "proven as frauds" - Now I did some reading, and I also heard that most of the bones we found of accent man were fragments of a skull, or a simple tooth.
Now, is this true? What HAVE we found? Do we have transitional forms in other animals?

This is a very good post, but it really doesn't belong in this section of the discussion board. This forum is for suggestions on how the site is run, etc. Simply copy and paste your post into the Proposed New Topics forum. This allows the admins to suggest improvements if they deem them necessary. I am not an admin, but they may suggest that you narrow down your topic to just the fossils or the questions you posed to the Sunday School teacher. If you want to skip the approval process (which is usually painless) you can post this directly to the Free For All forum. Happy posting.

What eggactly are you? You give me the impression of a skeptic, who believes there isn't enough evidence for a specifically Christian God. I believe you are correct, there is not a whole lot of evidence for a Christian God, it becomes a matter faith really. If one were to believe that the Bible is a source for life in General, or believes it fundamentally, than the evidence lies there, but this becomes circular.
People try to discredit the Bible, so what, I question it myself a lot. But I always find the Bible is a book of Love, and without it I would not know anything about God. God is against "sleepers". People who are not only opinionated but are closed to anything besides the values and beliefs instilled in them are "sleepers"... Unfortunately I see that a whole lot in the Christian set of beliefs. As lam would say, think outside of the box, and question everything.
But the Bible has great things to tell, all you have to do is read it.

"Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."
Ephesians 5:14
