Should Religion affect the scientific community?
Hypothetically speaking, if there is lets say 6,000,000,000 people on this Earth and 1/4 of them do not believe in a God, or in religion, should we not allow them to go against our own religious beliefs to pursue scientific studies? By ‘we’ I mean believers. I would be placed in the 25% scientific category which is why I feel we should be able to proceed with scientific 'breakthrough' technology which would create a scientific revolution. I feel strongly about this topic however, I'm hesitant to bring up key topics perhaps due to their relevance, ethical issues etc. So I leave the topic to you to question, comment so on and so forth.

Scientific breakthroughs and subsequent development will happen regardless of religious objections. It is a moot question most likely from a parochial view.

List of Scientific research: Cloning, Stem Cell Research, DNA Contstruction/ Altering, Machine - Human Integration.
There are a thousand more, I leave you with this, take it as you wish.
The years prior to World War II were marked in Germany by a campaign against "Jewish science" which included relativity. As a result Einstein, Fermi, Teller, Bethe and Szilard all left Europe. Because of Hitler's injection of religious prejudice into science, the Allies and not the Axis were first to the atomic bomb. The next big technology will probably be biotechnology, and a failure to teach modern biology could lead to our downfall. We must teach our children both the methods of science and the latest well-tested theories of biology and physics to guarantee our future.
- Edward L. Wright
Do not associate revolutionary science to desctruction (atomic bomb), the quote is not meant for literal interpretation as in, science brings destruction.

As I said, dealing from a provincial point of view. Those may well be retarded in some nations, but that will not stop development or progress. Those will continue. Only those nations so foolish as to forgo such research will get left behind.
This is no different than what happened in Nuclear Energy.

Did you mean foolish enough not to? If so, well I suppose your right, however, much of the research I have listed is infact able to become a reality, it is only due to religious disputes they have not been able to proceed.
And without it we would be back in the stone age.

Please do not discount the need to at least discuss and debate the moral and ethical aspects of technology. It is important that such factors be considered, and unfortunately, even in a religious context they are not, and that decisions be made on a fully informed basis. Each technology should be considered, its costs, risks and potential benefits fully disclosed.
