Well, bugger me gently with a fishknife! How the hell did that happen? (For those of you bothering to read this and not knowing what I'm on about: my non-avatar originally read "Ceci n'est pas un avatar". Some joker translated it into spanish.) May I assume it to be someone with admin-powers? Please, change it back. There's a good admin.

I'll admit I never liked Adams's stuff (I must have missed the profound bits), but I didn't intend 'Brit' as an insult. In fact, considering my abiding love for UK intellectual slapstick like Monty Python and Julian Barnes, I thought for sure "Hitchhiker's Guide" would have been right up my alley. It's all a matter of taste, I guess. Anyway, I didn't take it as an insult, this 'Brit' thing. First of all, because I'm not British, and second because you thought that I am. I'll take that as a great compliment. Have you read Adams' "Last chance to see"? It's non-fiction, it's about travel, biology, evolution and extinction, to name a few subjects.
