So far as I understand God created all that exists for man (am I wrong in that assumption?), if that is the case then why is the universe so vast? Seems to be a huge waste of space seeing as how man's purpose (whatever that is) should be achievable on Earth.

Maybe God has other projects going on in other parts of the universe?

What makes you think God made anything FOR man?

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

I don't think God did anything personally, that just seems to be a general belief I've heard from alot of christians.

There might be some Christians that might think that but it is certainly not supportable.

Ive heard religous people talk about that the entire univserse are created only for gods creations on this planet, and that, that makes us special.

Sounds stupid.

Worth trying to counter argue? No.
God can do whatever the hell pleases him. No explanation neccesary.

Same goes with bad design in humans (which have been discussed alot here in EvC) as a point against god. Its just silly, its Bananaman debating.

Well I guess you could take man out of the equation and the question still stands, why is the universe so vast? If life on Earth is the only beneficiary, hell even if there were life on other planets, why spread everything out so much?

Well if thats the position taken then there is no point trying to counter argue anything, if there is no reason for what God does then there is no reason for God.

Wrong questions
HUH?

The universe is the size it is because that is the size it is right now.

Life on earth is here because ... we happen to be on earth.

You seem to think the universe is here for man. Man is simply one of the things there. You might as well ask why there are stars.

We're here because we're here because we're here because we're here...

This isn't what I believe at all, I said thats what I've heard Christians say.

What I'm trying to get at is why would God create one small habitable zone in a massive dead universe? Whats the point of all that useless space out there? I'm not asking why the universe is the size that it is, I'm asking why would GOD make it that big?

Re: Wrong answers
HUH?

First, we don't know that there is only one small habitable zone.

We are the product of where we are. What you call a habitable zone is really only a habitable zone for us, and that is only because we evolved to live under those conditions.

It is where we are that determined what we are.

The universe was not made for us, we are the result of the universe.

Sure there might be Christians that actually believe and even say the silly things you claim, but not all Christians are that ********.

I only said one small habitable zone for the sake of this argument. I personally bet that there are more then a few habitable zones. And I know that Earth is only habitable to us because we evolved here, again thats not what I'm getting at.

Sure there might be Christians that actually believe and even say the silly things you claim, but not all Christians are that ********.

I've always been under the impression that Christians generally believe God made man in his image, and if he did that I'd assume Christians would think that the universe was created to house man. Unless they believe there is some other reason for there being so much more to the universe, why have so much stuff that is not needed for the existence of life on Earth outside of Earth and the Sun?

From reading the forum for the past year and a half or so I get the sense that you aren't what I think of when I think "Christian", so do you think the universe is the size that its just because thats the size that it is? No knowable reason, just take it as it is.

Re: Wrong answers
That depends on what you mean by reason.

We learn more about why things are the way they are every day.

The universe is the size it is because we happen to be living when the universe is the size it is right now. But it won't be this size tomorrow.
