Russell Crowe plays Noah, Anthony Hopkins plays Methuselah, Emma Watson plays Shem's wife and Nick Nolte plays an angel, what's not to like? Reviewed here in the NYT.

My Grampa was a huge movie buff ever since they starting coming out when he was a kid. He collected and cataloged thousands of movies throughout his life. He taught me to judge blockbuster movies by the actors that are in them. The rule being that top notch actors don't typically take on a role in a bad movie.
So, Russell Crowe and Anthony Hopkins; count me in.

The challenge will have been to make sure that the narrative and the script are as impressive as the special effects are bound to be.
Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ? |

I got a chance to watch the sneak preview of it with a friend who is a movie critic.
The movie is great! It's some of Crowe's best work. I am a huge fan of his so I may be partial but he's the best one in the film. The plot itself is original. I haven't seen the Noah story from the perspective of the people who god killed off at what it would have been like to go through something like that. But definitely a must see for any fans of epic films. - Oni

Anthony Hopkins hannibal. edit: i should state that i'm interested primarily because of the director, darren aaronfsky, who makes very good movies. Edited by arachnophilia, : No reason given.

Genesis 8:11 says the dove returned with " a freshly plucked olive leaf". but Genesis 7:21 indicates the olive tree was submerged in water and Genesis 7:24 that it was submerged for five or more months. Now go an ask an arborist what condition the olive tree would be in at the end of five or more months underwater. The five that I have consulted all say "Dead and Leafless". Local flood perhaps, worldwide flood no way. Still have doubts. OK! Go to a nursery and obtain a small 2 gallon olive tree and submerge it in a swimming pool for five months and observe what happens.
Ever try to build the largest wooden ship ever with eight people? The epic of Gilgamesh tell us that the ark was made of reeds. Gopher wood may be the Hebrew phonetic rendering of Guffa, a bowl shaped vessel made of reeds. If there was an ark it may have looked like the Mudhif of the Marsh Arabs of southern Iraq. The only tool required would be a lump of obsidian. Was there a flood? Possibly. The flooding of the Back Sea by the Mediterranean Sea is a good prospect as it was massive and very long lasting. Read Noah's Flood by William Ryan and Walter Pitman. If you have further interest try reading "The Evolution of Genesis" on Amazon Kindle for other possible Biblical solutions.

God could have just magically created the branch, there's no reason to limit it to a natural process.
Local flood perhaps, worldwide flood no way. The story as a whole just doesn't make sense unless its a worldwide flood. God was pissed at the world because of its wicked ways so he drowned everybody and everything to restart it all. You can't restart everything by killing off just a small portion of the world.

And we know for a fact, without a reasonable doubt, that the world has not been covered in water since humans have been around.

Tell me how you reconcile a God that kills little children and the compassionate Jesus who never killed anyone.
Study your ancient history around the time of the supposed world wide flood and tell me how people of Stonehenge, Egypt, Indus Valley and China managed to escape drowning. Maybe someone forgot to tell them they were underwater? Do the experiment and stop reading the Bible as though it were a comic book.

Do the experiment and stop reading the Bible as though it were a comic book. Read what I write and stop making assumptions about me.

But my personal favorite explanation is that they are stories to keep a group of like-minded believers assured that they are correct in their beliefs....so...they don't have to be consistent. Oh yeah...and the usual: God is merciful and loving but He is also perfectly Just, so..blah-blah.

I haven't seen the movie. The person I go to movies with has refused to see this one because of the criticism by Evangelical Christians. Love requires compromise. I will probably rent it while on a business trip.
Is it worth putting it on my long list of movies to view my myself?

Hey, that was actually kinda cool. If strewn with factual errors in order to adhere to the bible, nonetheless it did give a respectable tip o' the hat to evolution (crazed as it went - sped up as it was) and modern cosmology, as well.
Better than I thought it would have been.- xongsmith, 5.7d
