The US is taking a big step towards normalizing their relationship with Cuba. Let's hope that the American government will see its way clear to completing the job.

Not being a student in American history I've never understood why after the fall of communism and the USSR they remained sanctioned by the US.

The above ontological example models the zero premise to BB theory. It does so by applying the relative uniformity assumption that the alleged zero event eventually ontologically progressed from the compressed alleged sub-microscopic chaos to bloom/expand into all of the present observable order, more than it models the Biblical record evidence for the existence of Jehovah, the maximal Biblical god designer.

Does a query (thats a question Stile) that uses this physical reality, to look for an answer to its existence and properties become theoretical, considering its deductive conclusions are based against objective verifiable realities.

The power of money. The moneyed class fled Cuba for the US after the revolution. The Cuban migrs' are very powerful in the Republican party. The religious class also is anti-Cuba because of godless communism.
That and the US never admits it is wrong or made a mistake.

Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts
"God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness.

cigars but ...
It would be nice to see the return of real Cuban cigars but what really excites me is the possibility of all them 50's Detroit Iron getting repatriated.

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

This is long overdue. It should have been done 50 years ago.

A not very small benefit is that this will make it a lot easier to get back and forth between the US mainland and Puerto Rico.
And I would expect the tourist industry to boom.
And ... perhaps with increased knowledge ... some people will see that communist\socialist governments are not always as evil as some believe.
Enjoy.

Unfortunately at this point I don't believe that Americans can vacation in Cuba yet. Hopefully, if that is correct then that will change shortly.
Canadians have been vacationing in Cuba for years.

Cruiseboat Stops
and students can get study visas.
With diplomatic relations restored I would expect to see more people wanting to visit and cruise lines pushing to add Havana to their schedules. And I'll bet a lot of boaters would want to visit.
One of our local artists has been and has had a showing of his photos.
Expect more.
Enjoy

My understanding, and I can be corrected if I'm wrong, is that a big part of the issue is then when the Castro regime took over the country they confiscated the homes of wealthy Americans that had residences there. That was the original problem along with them aligning themselves with the USSR during the cold war.
More recently though it has been the issue of losing the Cuban/American vote in Florida.
It all seems strange to me though that the US to their credit has become best buds with Japan after actually being at war with them after Pearl Harbour but haven't been able to resolve their issues with Cuba which has only hurt already impoverished Cubans.
I think that President Obama is on the side of the angels with this one.

I'm proud to say that my country and Prime Minister played a part in all of this.

I find it very strange that the Cuba mess has gone on so long while Vietnam is a big trading partner - what fraction of our tennis shoes come from there? If you really like to hold irrational grudges, Vietnam is a much better candidate to hold them against.

That depends on whether the thing you like about holding irrational grudges is the grudge part or the irrationality.

The Us is just diminishing Russia's power and influence in their neighborhood.

Sure, why not?
I'd love to go to Cuba.
But why now all of the sudden? What has changed?

What has changed?
People are pissed at wars where people die, so the best way to keep the war profits going is to have a cold ware with Russia again, and just in case something goes wrong it would be a good idea to be on better terms with the neighboring ally of Russia.
