I don't know whether Stephen Fry is known to Americans but he's become a bit of a national treasure in the UK. He's a very smart guy, a comedian, writer, technophile, homosexual and atheist.
He was recently interviewed on Irish TV, asked what he's say to god if/when he met him and consequently caused quite a storm. The interviewer was obviously pretty shocked.

Someone - I thought it was Russell but my 5 minute Google didn't reveal anything - said some like
"You should have given me more evidence."
Which is also pretty cool.
