A member and I were chatting one lonely cold night (last night to be precise), and a thought, random though it was, popped into my head.
After considering different aspects of Scripture, I have come to the conclusion that God suffers from bipolar manic-depressive disorder (manic depression).
Using the Questionare for Bipolar
0 = Not at all 1 = Just a little 2 = Somewhat
3 = Moderately 4 = Quite a lot 5 = Very much
==================================================================================
1. At times I am much more talkative or speak much faster than usual.
0 1 2 3 4 5 Look at all the people God used to talk to. He now no longer talks to them... mood swings maybe?
2. There have been times when I was much more active or did many more
things than usual.
0 1 2 3 4 5 Haven't seen Him create the universe any time lately... seems like someone's taking a break...
3. I get into moods where I feel very speeded up or irritable.
0 1 2 3 4 5 The Fall, the Flood, the Tower of Babel, Exodus, etc.
4. There have been times when I have felt both high (elated) and low
(depressed) at the same time.
0 1 2 3 4 5 Seeing Noah's family safely off the ark, yet sad to have brought such death (a promise He made then and there).
5. At times I have been much more interested in sex than usual.
0 1 2 3 4 5 Well I would hope not!
6. My self-confidence ranges from great self-doubt to equally great
overconfidence.
0 1 2 3 4 5 Why did I create such scum? I am the Father of Creation!
7. There have been GREAT variations in the quantity or quality of my work.
0 1 2 3 4 5 Mold. Humans.
8. For no apparent reason I sometimes have been VERY angry or hostile.
0 1 2 3 4 5 A tower that would never reach Heaven anyway... doesn't seem like a good reason to me.
9. I have periods of mental dullness and other periods of very creative thinking.
0 1 2 3 4 5 The Universe sat void for who knows how long before He finally got around to making it...
10. At times I am greatly interested in being with people and at other times
I just want to be left alone with my thoughts.
0 1 2 3 4 5 I love people... so much! I like all the people. BAD PEOPLE! Hate people... people GO AWAY! Flood waters destroy them! Leave me to my being!
11. I have had periods of great optimism and other periods of equally great
pessimism.
0 1 2 3 4 5
12. I have had periods of tearfulness and crying and other times when I laugh
and joke excessively.
0 1 2 3 4 5 Crucifiction. Holocaust.
Based on the above set of criteria, it is easy to see how God exhibits clearly bipolar behaviour. His inexplicable changes in mood from loving humans to hating them can only be understood assuming a bipolar background.
The following news article should help explain it:
Purchasing Bewilderment
A quote from that article reads:
"The Book of Job... marks the best example of His condition. The book begins with the bleak lamentations of Job and ends with a full-blown manic episode by God, complete with such classic bipolar symptoms as the illusion of omnipotence and delusions of grandeur."
Please any input would be most appreciated on this, as I myself am still trying to wrap my head around the insane idea of God suffering from manic depression.
(Remember how you wanted me to post, Phat? Well, guess what? )

The Good Humor God
This is indeed a social dilemma in Creation/Evolution...but quite humorous, Jon!
Bipolar is a manic-depressive phenomenon. God is not a God of opposites. Humanity, contrarily, is. Besides...how would we ever get God to take His Meds?

Translators Bipolar?
Perhaps it is not God that is bipolar but rather the translators and some of the followers. Look at what is professed here, often from the same individual -- God is love, I believe in God <> I hate Muslims, Hindus, Buddists, Taoists, Panthiests, Catholics, Commies, Gays, Democrats, Greens, Libertarians, Scientists, Humanists, Musicians, Melanin, Teens, Tots, etc., etc., etc.

Well, if the xian god is indeed bi polar, I hope it stays in its' depressive phase.
God forbid an entity with all the powers attributed to the xian god going into the manic phase.
With all the whirl of ideas and energy and drive the the manic god would posess; that would truly be the End Times.
I would also say it is has co-mordidity with Personality Disorders such as: Narcissistic (full blown denial of the importance of anyone except self, requires constant admiration), and OCPD (preoccupation with perfection, moral/sexual rigidity, conservativism and stubbornness).

Tower Of Babel as one example

Apparently, so the legend goes, God confused all the languages because He didn't want the people to come to a uniform agreement without Him as part of the communion.
The Tower obviously didn't concern God as much as the agreement among the various factions of people building it.

I would take exception to some of your observations.
quote:
There have been times when I was much more active or did many more things than usual.
quote:
I have periods of mental dullness and other periods of very creative thinking.
We seem to be seeing a general decline or even cessation of activity, not an alteration between two polar extremes. That seems more likely to suggest general depression or death.
quote:
At times I have been much more interested in sex than usual.
God's interest in (our) sex may be (creepily) "abnormal", but it seems pretty consistent.
quote:
There have been GREAT variations in the quantity or quality of my work.
I don't see how you think mould and/or humans illustrate that symptom.
quote:
I have had periods of tearfulness and crying and other times when I laugh and joke excessively.
I don't know where you think you have evidence of God's reaction to the crucifixion or the Holocaust.

The questionaire requires the subject's answers, not yours. He could probably answer zero to most of the questions.
