Gotta say Sierra Nevada stout is my favorite of beers I can get at the grocery store. I think Yeti stout is my favorite stout of all (Great Divide Brewing Company). I like their Double IPA too a lot.
Anyone else here like beer?

Oh, yeah. Moving to Columbia seems to have blessed me with some fabulous local beers. I like to drink O'Fallon unfiltered, and also their seasonal pumpkin beer is really good.
I had an oatmeal stout from the Flat Branch brewing company called "Oil Change Stout". It was fantastic. And the wife and I love to hoist a Leinie's honey-weiss when we're anxious for a taste of home. Lowbrow, I know.

Oil Change stout
May have to try out the Oil Change, in moderation, and though wheat beer is not my favorite, maybe the honey-weiss as well.
If you're ever in Atlanta in the Fall, Sweetwater makes a very good seasonal Porter. 2nd best Porter I've ever had.

I like Guiness, but...
It's not as good as some of these other stouts.

The car bomb is good for getting drunk, but that's not me. Gave that up long ago, and if that was what I was looking for, I'd just use it to chase Tequila.
Glad those days are gone, btw.

maybe time for something lighter
Just as long as you’re not talking about light beer
Anyone else here like beer?
Does the Pope wear a funny hat? To an Australian it’s like asking “do you breathe oxygen?”
I haven’t tried a great range of stouts, but I do enjoy a Guinness sometimes when I can afford it. Beer however, that’s a different matter. I’d have to say my personal favourites are some of the Australian premium beers, such as Hahn, Cascade, Coopers and Boags. However, I’d say only Aussies and those who have spent some time here would have heard of these. Of course, these premium beers are a little more expensive so these days I can’t afford it very often. Therefore I usually go for the more basic or mid-range price stuff. Luckily, our basic domestic beers aren’t too bad either! And please don’t mention Fosters, it’s crap. Yes it’s probably Australia’s best known exported beer, but that’s only so we can get rid of it and keep the good stuff to ourselves! The only time I ever drank it was at a Christmas function, only because it was later in the evening and it was the only beer left.
I travelled a fair bit around the US a few years ago, and in doing I so saw the inside of many bars. I have to say that the basic US brands like Bud, Miller, Coors et al, are pretty grim. They just seem to have very little flavour. And that is not just my Australian bias talking there. My wife was brought up in the US and used to staunchly defend the US beers, but now even she thinks they’re nothing compared to local stuff! But credit where it’s due, the US does have some good beers. The main widely available ones I remember enjoying were Samuel Adams and Sierra Nevada. Also, any of the brew-pub type places I went to always had good beer.
I also have to say that they make some good stuff up in Canada. I think overall I liked it better than US beer. But I guess it’s all a matter of personal taste I suppose.
Now, I'm kinda thirsty. Think I'll pick up a case on the way home.

"Thank you Slartibartfast, that will be all."

i'm 6'3, 240 or so. it takes a lot more than a few car bombs to get me drunk.
but no, i don't ever drink to get drunk. had a bad experience getting drunk once, injured myself, screwed up something with a friend. plus, it just takes way too much alcohol for it to be any fun. i think that night it was a glass and a half of straight kaluha and about halfway down the bottle of vodka, in about half an hour. yeah, not doing that again. i don't really enjoy the feeling once i get there anyways. i like to be fully concious and in control at all waking moments.
generally, i don't even like the taste. if it's not worthwhile to get trashed, it might as well taste good. so basically, i stick to non-alcoholic stuff like coke, or tea. i don't really drink at all, even when other people around me are. i've sort of become the default designated driver.

Grim is one way to describe them. Just plain bad is another. But the US has come a long ways over the past 20 years in terms of beer. Some very good and some of the best beers in the world, imo, are brewed here, but it's not always easy to get them, at least on tap.

the canadian side of my family taught me this little saying:
"american beer is like making love in a canoe... "
"...f---ing near water."

Where I live, the water is stronger than American beer - climbs out of the well by itself.

People who think they have all the answers usually don't understand the questions.

Home Brew!
Or failing that, any of Britain's fine real ales. Or Frambosenbier.

One of my favourite beers is one that I haven't tried yet. I generally lke a bit of Wychwood brewery stuff, but its a little 'safe'. I would prefer a nice characteristic Badger Brewery. Then of course, it depends on the season. Summer is perfect for London Pride or an IPA, winter cries out for a Riggwelter or Guiness.
