I have read and heard some of your responses. You know that I am a believer. I believe that God COULD Do anything. I mean anything! Lets look at the Flood story deeper! What is God telling us in this story?
Gen 5:32=After Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of Shem, Ham and Japheth.
So we know that Noah is old and that he has three sons.
Gen 6:2-3= the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose.
Sounds to me like there were people who knew that God was their source yet they began to do what they wanted to do rather than listen to the Holy Spirit within them.
Gen 6:3-his days will be a hundred and twenty years."
so perhaps because they lost their source and did what they wanted, they now did not live as long as Holy Dads like Noah.
Gen 6:5-The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.
Everybody had lost their source and did what they wanted.
Gen 6:8-But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.
Except Noah who still knew his source.
Gen 6:9-10-Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God.
OK..so the story goes, God says to Noah, quite clearly, that Noah and his family will be all that remains of humans. Additionally, God states quite plainly to Noah that
Gen 7:4-I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made."
That means what it says! Everything living is gone except one family who knows the source of all wisdom. This family is to populate the earth, right? Yet God says:
Gen 8:21=The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: "Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done.
So God shows us that even though one family was as moral as a human can get, every inclination of their heart is still to do evil. This is the sum meaning of the story. The Bible is not an intellectual puzzle. The Bible is profound and true yet simple.

If the Flood story was actually true, wouldn't it make God a Terrorist on a scale that makes Osama Bin Laden look like a petty thug ?
I mean did all those innocent people have to die ?

Homer: Hey, Flanders,
heading for church? Well, I
thought I
could save you a little time.
Ned: Oooh, found a new
shortcut.
Homer: Better. I was
working on a flat tax
proposal and I
accidentally proved there's
no God. [shows Flanders a
sheet of paper with
complex figuring on it]
Ned: [flustered] We'll just
see about that. [reads the
paper]
Uh-oh. Well, maybe he
made a mistake. [checks it
again]
Nope, it's airtight. Can't let
this little doozy get out.
[uses a lighter to burn the
"proof"]
[in the background, Homer
puts more copies of his no-
God
paper on the windshields
of nearby cars]

Every inclination is to do evil? That is just ludicrous. People have the capacity to do bad things, and will do bad things, but my experience is that people aim for the good more than the bad. We are not evil (a very harsh word) beings.

profound? sure
true? depends on your interpretation
simple? there's been a multi-millenial debate on how to properly interpret the Bible
