Are American's amused, embarrassed or proud of their creationist contingent?

A Non-American Opinion
Here in Canada the majority view (for those who are even aware that such people are around) would be one of mild amusement (like with flat-earthers). We have no interference with education here so it easy to take that view( well almost no interference, there are occasional forays into that area).
IIRC, we did have a federal politician from our own bible-belt (Alberta) who, rumour has it was a young earther. The party scrambled to divert attention from this and to sort of hide him away.
My own view is to be embarrassed everytime I see a creationist post here with a Canadian location. I have this feeling of need to run around and convince everyone that this one is an anomoly. (I know we have lots of them, sigh).
